Thermal and magnetic behaviour of 5-chloro-2-nitrobenzoates of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II)

Abstract: Chloro-2-nitrobenzoates of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) having formulae Co(C 7 H 3 O 4 NCl) 2 Á3H 2 O, Ni(C 7 H 3 O 4 NCl) 2 Á3H 2 O and Cu(C 7 H 3 O 4 NCl) 2 Á2H 2 O, were obtained as polycrystalline compounds. From the IR spectra analysis of complexes, sodium salt and according to the spectroscopic criteria the carboxylate ions seem bidentate groups. The complexes of Co(II) and Cu(II) lose the water of crystallization in one step at 363-523 K. The Ni(II) complex loses it in two stages in the ranges of 323-378 a… Show more

“…The amount of the solid material estimated from the TG curve was found to be 25.0% and denotes that the decomposition of this compound at 800 °C was not completed, since the calculated value for the expected metallic cobalt is 8.66% and for CoO 11.01%. These results are in accordance with those referred for other similar cobalt(II) complexes. , …”

“…These results are in accordance with those referred for other similar cobalt(II) complexes. 36,37 Figure 10 shows the temperature dependence of the molar magnetic susceptibility for complex 2 after heat treatment in the form of χ M T versus T using two different external magnetic field H = 300−5000 G along with the data before the heat treatment for comparison reasons. The data suggest a structural transformation of the system with a completely different behavior which is in accordance to the TG-DTA measurements.…”

“…The further gradual mass loss (545-1400°C) could be attributed to the elimination of the remaining organic parts of the dipyridylamine leaving as residue metallic cobalt. The complex nature of thermal decomposition for analogous cobalt complexes has also recently been reported [35].…”

“…The observed magnetic moment was µ B :5.42 and 5.01 B.M., for Mn(II) and Co(II) coordination polymers, respectively [21][22][23][24] at room temperature is within the range for an octahedral geometry. The reflectance spectrum of Mn(II) coordination polymer shows three bands at 18500, 23100 and 26900 cm -1 which may be assigned to the transitions: 6 A 1g → 4 T 1g , 6 A 1g → 4 E g , 4 A 1g (G) and 6 A 1g (D) respectively.…”
