Introduction: The aim of the present study was to compare the quality of the root canal obturation obtained with two different techniques, i.e., thermoplastic gutta-percha introduced through a carrier (GuttaCore) and fluid gutta-percha (GuttaFlow2). Materials and Methods: The study included 40 permanent single-rooted human teeth, divided into two groups and obturated with Guttaflow (group G) and with GuttaCore (group T). The teeth were fixed and transversely sectioned, they were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The dentin–cement–gutta–percha interface and the percentage of voids produced by the two techniques were statistically analyzed. Results: GuttaCore showed a better filling in the apical third of the canal with a percentage of voids equal to 5%. GuttaFlow showed a lower percentage of voids in the middle and coronal thirds of the canal, 1.6% of coronal voids. Statistical analysis showed a statistically significant difference in the percentage of voids in the two groups (GuttaCore and Guttaflow2) in each portion. Conclusions: GuttaFlow2 seems to flow optimally in the middle and coronal third of the canal, with greater difficulty in filling the apical third. Due to the rigidity of the carrier, GuttaCore is able to reach better the most apical portions of the canals, with greater difficulty in creating the three-dimensional seal at the level of the middle third and coronal third.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate root canal preparation with the Wave One ® system as well as single cone endodontic obturation techniques and with staked obturators from the same systePm. Materials and Methods: 31 patients with 46 teeth and 76 roots canals were included. The roots canals were prepared with Wave One ® files and fillled with calibrated cones or stake plugs from the same system. The average times of root canal preparation and filling were measured. The quality of the filling was evaluated by post-operative radiographs according to its limit and density. In addition, errors during shaping and root canal filling were investigated. Results: The average duration of canal shaping was 9.85. For root canal obturation, the average duration was 6.69 with the single cone technique and 5.55 with the stake system (p > 0.05). Concerning the apical limit, the single cone technique had 90.6% of adequate limit and the stake system 83.3% (p > 0.05). The single-cone technique showed 7.8% of parietal voids and the stake system 16.6% of parietal and central voids (p > 0.05). Finally, no accidents were reported. Conclusion:This study shows that root canal preparation with Wave One ® followed by filling with cones or stake plugs of the same system provides satisfactory results.

Flores 1a,2b , Aissa Pastenes -Orellana 3a,4b RESUMENDebido a la compleja anatomía radicular, existe una búsqueda constante de un sellado tridimensional lo más herméticamente posible en la obturación posibilitando la reparación de los tejidos. Desde su descubrimiento, la gutapercha sigue siendo el material ideal para este propósito, debido a que posee la particularidad de adecuarse a los diferentes cambios térmicos y sus desventajas no hacen menguar sus cualidades. Esta revisión crítica de la literatura tiene como objetivo enfatizar conceptos y destacar aspectos positivos y vulnerables de las diferentes técnicas y sistemas de obturación con la finalidad de potenciar al máximo un correcto sellado homogéneo, cumpliendo con nuestros objetivos técnicos y biológicos. Se empleó el método cualitativo, análisis de contenido de tipo directo, realizándose una búsqueda exhaustiva de la información, concluyéndose que la técnica o sistema que se emplee dependerá de los conocimientos, destrezas y recursos disponibles teniendo en cuenta las características anatómicas a las que el clínico se enfrente. La mayoría de los sistemas que utilizan gutapercha termoplastificada son de costo elevado dificultando su utilización en la práctica diaria endodóncica. La hibridaci ón de las diferentes técnicas y sistemas permite obtener un sellado lo más homogéneo posible. (Fuente: DeCS BIREME) ABSTRACTDue to the complex radicular anatomy, there is a constant search for a three -dimensional seal -as tight as possible in the obturation -making possible the repair of the tissues. Since its discovery, gutta-percha remains as the ideal material for this purpose; because it has the particularity of adapting to the different thermal changes and its disadvantages do not diminish its qualities. This critical review of the literature aims to emphasize concepts and highlight positive and vulnerable aspects of the different techniques and sealing systems, with the aim of maximizing a correct homogenous sealing, fulfilling our technical and biological objectives. The qualitative analysis method of direct type content was used; an exhaustive search of the information is carried out, concluding that the technique or system used will depend on the knowledge, skill and available resources, taking into account the anatomical characteristics to which the clinician is confronted. Most systems that use thermoplasticized gutta -percha are expensive and difficult to use in endodontic daily practice. The hybridization of the different techniques and systems allows a seal to be obtained as homogeneous as possible.
