Thermafil: A New Clinical Approach Due to New Dimensional Evaluations

Abstract: Background:There are a lot of techniques to obturate the root canals, but lateral condensation of gutta-percha is the most used one. An important aspect of thermafil is the error margin tolerated by the manufacturer in the production of plastic carriers. In literature, there is no evidence about discrepancy percentage between different carriers. It is demonstrated that the error margin of gutta-percha is 0.5% and is 0.2% for metal files (ISO standards). Objective:The aim of this study was to evaluate the real d… Show more

“…In fact, the carrier, being rigid, can reach the working length, thus obtaining an excellent apical seal (Figure 11d). The number of voids, on the other hand, increases in the middle third and the coronal third (Table 1), probably due to the discrepancy between the morphology of the carrier, with its round cross-section, and the morphology of the root canals, with a more oval cross-section [37][38][39][40].…”

“…18 The average duration of 5.55 minutes for the root canal filling by the Wave One ® obturators shows its simplicity and effectiveness as described in other studies. [19][20][21][22][23][24][25] The single cone technique with Wave One ® cones took relatively longer with an average of 6.69 minutes but this difference is not statistically significant. However, it is a clinically satisfactory technique without additional costs compared to inputs (no furnace required and less expensive cones).…”
