Theoretical Lifetimes and Oscillator Strengths in Ce II. Application to the Chemical Composition of the Sun

Abstract: A new set of transition probabilities is derived for many transitions of Ce II of astrophysical interest. A relativistic Hartree-Fock method, combined with a least-squares ¢tting of the available experimental levels, including a number of newly determined values, has been used for the determination of the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues. Con¢guration interaction and corepolarization e¡ects have been introduced in the calculations. The derived oscillator strengths lead to a new value of the cerium abundance in t… Show more

“…In a few cases, however, oscillator strengths were corrected as is described by Bikmaev et al (2002). One important aspect of the present abundance analysis was the Pr-Nd anomaly and we therefore used the latest data on rare-earth elements published by Palmeri et al (2000) for Ce , Bord (2000) for Nd , and Bord (private communication) for Pr .…”

“…New experimental oscillator strengths and hfs constants were used for La ii (Lawler et al 2001a), Ce ii (Palmeri et al 2000;Zhang et al 2001), and Eu ii lines (Lawler et al 2001b). Two weak lines of Nd iii λλ 5102, 5295, which are the strongest lines in the Nd iii spectrum, were identified in HD 32115.…”
