The volatile constituents of Acinus alpinus (L.) Moench ssp. meridionalis (Nyman) P. W. Ball growing in Spain

Abstract: Analysis of two samples of the oil of Acinus alpinus (L.) Moench subsp. meridionalis (Nyman) P. W. Ball revealed the following composition: monoterpene hydrocarbons (6.1 70, 14.1%), oxygenated monoterpenes (1.7%. 1.9"/0), sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (83.1%, 79.3%) and oxygenated sesquiterpenes (9.1Y0, 4.7%). The main constituents found were germacrene-D (56.8%, 43.2%), rram-p-caryophyllene (6.2%, 15.4%) and bicyclogermacrene (s.90/,, 11.7%). “…It comprises three Acinos alpinus samples available as bundles. Literature evidence suggests that the essential oils of Acinos alpinus from Greece and adjacent Turkey are rich in sesquiterpenes and lack p-menthane compounds (Kaya et al, 1999;Skaltsa et al, 1999), whereas those from plants grown in Spain and Morocco may be rich in either sesquiterpenes (Velasco-Neguerela et al, 1993) or in pulegone (Bellakhdar et al, 1988;Esteban, 1995). Group B: Samples with a pungent smell.…”

“…This té has a very pleasant aroma since it contains pulegone, as well as ␣-pinene, menthone and limonene. It has antispasmodic, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties (Velasco-Negueruela et al, 1993;Esteban, 1995;Kaya et al, 1999).…”

“…A. arvensis was once used to treat bruises, toothache, sciatica and neuralgia. 4 The chemical composition of the oils of A. arvensis, 3-5 A. suaveolens, 4,5,7,8 A. alpinus, [9][10][11] A. majoranifolius, 12 A. rotundifolius 4 and A. troodi 13 was previously studied. There is also one paper devoted to the oil content, the qualitative and quantitative composition of tannins and the qualitative analysis of the flavonoids.…”
