“…Moreover, the conception that the responsibility for the employment and economic position of individuals rests so heavily on their investment in education leaves aside the structural and social conditions of the labour market (Tibajev 2022) that have been shown during the review. For example, migrants' education is devalued (Tibajev 2022;Farashah et al 2023). This is pointed out, for example, in studies by Carangio et al (2021); Gomes (2018);and Riaño (2021).…”

“…Instead, these services were in line with what officials from the Migration Board (or Employment Bureau) considered suitable for the labour market demand. Since most new residents were unfamiliar with the system, many of them only became aware of these problems after several years, which had long-term negative consequences for their integration into Swedish society despite their secure legal status (Tibajev, 2021). Only a small number of individuals from this group tried to become independent and find their own way into the new society, seeking to choose accommodation, education or employment options they believed were in their best interests.…”

“…Higher levels of human capital are linked to reduced susceptibility to negative stereotypes and discrimination. Education and exposure to diverse environments can foster more inclusive attitudes and reduce prejudice (Pager & Shepherd, 2008;Tibajev, 2022). Educated individuals, having invested in their human capital, are likely to recognize the value of diversity in the labor market and are less likely to view immigrants as direct job competitors (Garcia Quijano, 2020;Wilkes & Wu, 2019).…”
