In the sphere of education, the influence of technology is growing tremendously. However, due to rapid technical progress, its implementation has been fraught with various difficulties, particularly in developing countries. This study investigates current trends and challenges in the use of information and communication technology (ICT) among university students in Karachi, Pakistan. The study is based on a quantitative approach. A random sample of 130 university students is collected through a paper-pencil survey questionnaire. For data analysis, descriptive statistics are applied. According to the results, the majority of students use smartphones for educational purposes and spend more time on the internet for entertainment and other purposes than for academic purposes. They acknowledge the significant role of technology in their learning and have an intermediate level of computer skills. Most of the students are dissatisfied with the available ICT-based technology in universities.

The Impact of Technology Adaptation on Academic Engagement: A Moderating Role of Perceived Argumentation Strength and School Support

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted routine activities such as attending to school and transferring education online. This study explores students’ perceptions of technology adoption and academic engagement using data from a survey (N = 465), with perceived argumentation and school support serving as moderators. The data were collected using a convenience sampling technique. The authors examined the association between perceived utility, perceived digital competitiveness, and perceived ease of use and academic engagement. While perceived utility and ease of use of online learning technologies do not appear to be connected with academic engagement, digital competence is. It is argued that there is a need to introduce an improvised mechanism for technology in schools. Academic involvement has no effect on perceived reasoning power, but social support has a considerable effect on academic engagement.

Globally Project-Based learning is regarded as a replacement for the conventional, instructor-centered mode of education. PBL is an effective instructional strategy to change students’ attitudes toward learning. Yet, in Pakistani public schools, traditional teaching approaches are still employed. Given that these students’ math scores are abysmal and they have a negative attitude toward math, it is reasonable to test whether PBL can improve the attitudes of Pakistani public school children leading to better math scores. In the present study, a quasi-experimental design was used; the experimental group was treated with PBL intervention, while the control group was taught with the traditional teaching method. Before and after the intervention, pre-attitude and achievements were measured in both the experimental and control group. After the intervention, dependent variables were checked using the same instruments. An attitude scale, achievement test, and interview protocol tool were used to collect data. Findings revealed the Z score and p-value (z =-4.570, p = 0.00), supporting that the experimental group students improved their attitude towards Math learning due to PBL intervention. An independent sample t-test demonstrated a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control group (p = 0.00). Teacher and student interviews show that PBL has a positive effect on students’ attitudes and may increase their success. Furthermore, it has favorable impressions of the methodology. The results of this study may improve mathematics instruction and evaluation in the primary education system. Future studies should be done in different schools, grade levels, and ages to see how PBL works in different scenarios.
