The Use of Fibrin Glue in the Treatment of Fistula-In-Ano: A Prospective Study

Abstract: Fibrin glue application was thus found to be an easy, safe, effective, and useful alternative treatment in the management of fistulas-in-ano. However, our findings need substantiation by increasing the number of patients and prolonging the follow-up duration, as well as carrying out comparative studies.

“…Venkatesh and Ramanujam 88 suggested that recurrence was higher in tracts of shorter length. These findings were supported by the failure of fibrin glue in fistula tracts of 2.5 cm 93 and recurrence rates of 54% and 11% for fistula tracts 3.5 cm and >3.5 cm in length, respectively. 89 The failure of fibrin glue in short fistula tracts was suggested to be due to the 10-second solidification period of the glue being too long to prevent the leakage of the semisolid glue out of the small tract.…”
