The Use of Dried Blood Spots for the Quantification of Antihypertensive Drugs

Abstract: Hypertension or high blood pressure is a harbinger of cardiovascular diseases. There are several classes of drugs used to treat hypertension. This review discusses the use of dried blood spots (DBSs) for the quantification by mass spectrometry (MS), tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), or, in some cases, by fluorescence detection methods the following antihypertensive medications: angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ramipril, ramiprilat, captopril, and lisinopril); angiotensin II receptor antagonists (valsa… Show more

“…The DBS sampling technique is suitable even for small children [5] for routine clinical testing [4]. DBS helps with recruitment of subjects for preclinical or clinical studies [6] due to simpler storage and easier transfer by mail to the assigned analytical laboratory [2]. Chernonosov and Koval;JPRI,31(6): [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]2019; Article no.…”

“…DBS along with LC-MS/MS is now broadly applied for the quantitation of a wide variety of analytes from various therapeutic areas majorly in therapeutic drug monitoring and pharmacokinetic/toxicokinetics studies. Recent reviews on DBS methodology [4][5][6][7][8][9] is a true testimony of its utility in bioanalytical quantitation.…”
