The use of a novel algorithm to analyse a sequential storage problem in a refrigeration plant

Abstract: The minimum‐cost operating strategy for an idealized refrigeration plant having cogeneration capacity was previously analysed using a linear programming model. It is shown here that the addition of chilled‐water storage can reduce energy costs by substantially altering the optimum operating strategy. A novel algorithm that uses a sequence of linear programming optimizations to analyse the dynamic behaviour of a store, is discussed. The method avoids approximations inherent in usual dynamic programming techniqu… Show more

“…Every use of energy is accompanied by its wastage and losses in some form or other. Ito et al (1990Ito et al ( , 1992, Musgrove (1988), Musgrove and stocks (1989), Weiner (1989), Ito et al (1994) reported some results in this direction. Cogeneration systems are expected to play an important role in solving the global energy and environmental problems that are at issue in recent years.…”

“…In this case it is necessary to investigate the effects of storage tanks on the design and operation of cogeneration systems (Yokoyama and Ito, 1995). Ito et al (1990Ito et al ( , 1992, Musgrove (1988), Musgrove and stocks (1989), Weiner (1989), Ito et al (1994) reported some results in this direction. Dixit (1991) describes cogeneration as one of the effective techniques of efficient energy management.…”
