Performance simulation of heat recovery steam generators in a cogeneration system

Abstract: SUMMARYThe performance simulation of heat recovery steam generators in a cogeneration system has been investigated to see the effect of pinch and approach points on steam generation and also on temperature profiles across the heat recovery steam generator. The effects of operating conditions on steam production and also on exit gas temperature from the heat recovery steam generator are discussed. Low pinch point results in improved heat recovery steam generator performance due to reduced irreversibilities. The… Show more

“…The HRSG provides energy for steam production within a steam power plant (see Figure 1). (Karthikeyan et al, 1998) Figure 2 illustrates the temperature profile in the HRSG. Hot exhaust gas from combustion enters the superheater and flows through the evaporator and economizer and is discharged at the exit of the economizer to the surroundings.…”

“…For example, Karellas et al (2013) investigate the use of an HRSG to collect waste heat from cement processes. Also, Shu et al (2013) investigate the use of HRSGs with two stroke motors, Carazas et al (2011) examine the use of HRSGs in several power generating plants, Beér (2013) investigates the use of HRSGs in CO2 reduction in coal power generating plants, and Karthikeyan et al (1998) analyzed steam production rates and net-work for a cogeneration system using industrial waste heat recovery.…”

“…In the recent years, many authors have studied HRSGs and Combined Cycle Gas Turbines (CCGTs) from thermodynamic, thermal design, and economic points of view. Karthikeyan and colleagues simulated the performance of HRSGs in a cogeneration system. Khaliq and colleagues investigated performance analysis of an industrial waste heat‐based trigeneration system.…”
