The use, feasibility and psychometric properties of an individualised quality-of-life instrument: a systematic review of the SEIQoL-DW

Abstract: The SEIQoL-DW appears to be a feasible and valid instrument. The lack of association between the Index score and health, functional status, demographic and clinical parameters may be explained by the instrument's focus on global QoL and by that of the idiographic measurement approach reflecting the capacity of a patient to value domains other than health in life, despite having health problems. Nevertheless, continued psychometric evaluation in large populations with a longitudinal design is recommended.

“…A further study might use more individual instruments tested in palliative care, such as the SEIQoL. 24 Fifth, duration of dexamethasone medication before the study should be recorded, and an exact schedule for decreasing dexamethasone dose should be given. Finally, the effect of BS on the tumor should be included as a study endpoint.…”

“…17 As a result of its validity and usefulness in assessing reprioritisation issues and individual perceptions of QoL, the schedule is extensively used in QoL research in medical and psychological settings. 18 With respect to SCI literature, the SEIQoL-DW has only been administered in few studies, where it provided helpful insights into the complex relationship between functional status and life satisfaction. 19,20 For the assessment of coping style, the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situation (CISS) was employed.…”
