Navigating robots with precision in complex environments remains a significant challenge. In this article, we present an innovative approach to enhance robot localization in dynamic and intricate spaces like homes and offices. We leverage Visual Question Answering (VQA) techniques to integrate semantic insights into traditional mapping methods, formulating a novel position hypothesis generation to assist localization methods, while also addressing challenges related to mapping accuracy and localization reliability. Our methodology combines a probabilistic approach with the latest advances in Monte Carlo Localization methods and Visual Language models. The integration of our hypothesis generation mechanism results in more robust robot localization compared to existing approaches. Experimental validation demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach, surpassing state-of-the-art multi-hypothesis algorithms in both position estimation and particle quality. This highlights the potential for accurate self-localization, even in symmetric environments with large corridor spaces. Furthermore, our approach exhibits a high recovery rate from deliberate position alterations, showcasing its robustness. By merging visual sensing, semantic mapping, and advanced localization techniques, we open new horizons for robot navigation. Our work bridges the gap between visual perception, semantic understanding, and traditional mapping, enabling robots to interact with their environment through questions and enrich their map with valuable insights. Purpose -This mixed-methods study integrates bibliometric and altmetric investigation with a qualitative method in order to assess the prevalence and societal-impact of Open-Access (OA) publications, and to reveal the considerations behind researchers’ decision to publish articles in closed and open-access. Design/methodology/approach - The bibliometric-altmetric study analyzed 584 OA and closed publications published between 2014-2019 by 40 Israeli researchers: 20 from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and 20 from SSH (Social Sciences and Humanities) discipline. We used a multistage cluster sampling method to select a representative sample for the STEM disciplines group (engineering, computer science, biology, mathematics, and physics), and for the SSH disciplines group (sociology, economics, psychology, political science, and history). Required data were extracted from Scopus and Unpaywall databases, and the PlumX-platform. Among the 40 researchers who were selected for the bibliometric-altmetric study, 20 researchers agreed to be interviewed for this study.Findings - Comparing bibliometrics and altmetrics for the general publications did not reveal any significant differences between OA and closed publications. These were found only when comparing OA and closed publications across disciplines. STEM-researchers published 59% of their publications in OA, compared to just 29% among those in SSH, and they received significantly more bibliometric and altmetric citations from SSH OA publications and from their own closed-access publications. The altmetrics findings indicate that researchers are well acquainted and active in social media. However, according to the interviewees, there is no academic contribution for sharing research findings on social-media; it is viewed as a “public-service”. Researchers’ primary consideration for publishing in closed or OA was the journal impact-factor.Research limitations/implications - Our findings contribute to the increasing body of research that addresses OA citations and societal-impact advantages. The findings suggest the need to adopt an OA-policy after a thorough assessment of the consequences for SSH disciplines.

We start with the neo-republican model of citizenship proposed by Habermas to situate it in the context of the digital age. The digital citizen is defined as a person who exercises their rights on the Internet of citizenship from ethical and critical principles consistent with a political activism, in order to promote social change. This study has focused on the evaluation of digital citizenship through the Digital Citizenship Scale of Choi, Glassman and Cristol (2017), with the aim of ascertaining, what profile, dimensions and needs of digital citizenship characterize the university students interviewed (n = 250). The results show that young university students have high digital skills and technical skills, as well as a very regular use of digital media. However, the dimensions of critical approach and political activism o cyberactivsim are deficient. Finally, the fact of seeking information or information through digital means significantly leads to greater digital citizenship, while the accomplishment of activities and academic university tasks does not bring any increase. In conclusion, the university educational level faces the challenge of promoting critical and active digital citizenship education, especially in its dimension of activism or online engagement in all aspects of the teaching-learning process.
