The TwinEBIS setup: Machine description

Abstract: International audienceTwinEBIS is an Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) recently made operational at CERN. The device is similar in construction to the REXEBIS charge breeder operating at the ISOLDE facility. After relocation of the solenoid from the Manne Siegbahn Laboratory (MSL) Stockholm, TwinEBIS was commissioned at CERN and serves as a test bench dedicated to manipulation of low-energy highly charged ions. In the low energy section of the machine, fully stripped carbon ions ( 12 C 6+ ) are produced by the ion source (TwinEBIS, operating at CERN [5]), transported in the Low Energy Beam Transport (LEBT) [6] and matched to the Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ), which represents the first rf accelerating structure. The RFQ has the critical role of shaping the beam in both the transverse and the longitudinal plane and prepare it for the injection in the following accelerating structures.…”
