Bu tanıtım yazısının amacı, dünyada sesli betimleme konusunda yürütülen araştırmalardaki güncel yönelimlerden yola çıkarak Türkiye'de sesli betimleme konusunda dilbilim bağlamında gerçekleştirilebilecek bilimsel araştırma ve etkinlikler için genel bir çerçeve çizmektir. Uluslararası alanyazınındaki araştırmalar, sesli betimlemenin üretim, iletim ve tüketim aşamalarına yoğunlaşmaktadır. Üretim aşamasıyla ilgili görsel-işitsel ürün/ortam, sesli betimleme türevleri, metnin nitelikleri ve dili, betimlemeci yetkinlikleri ve eğitimi, metin üretim zamanı, metin üretim yöntemi ve metnin seslendirilmesi konularına değinilmiştir. İletim aşamasıyla ilgili, analog ve sayısal televizyon bağlamında iletim teknolojileriyle çeşitli ortamlardaki alıcı aygıtı olanakları tartışılmıştır. Tüketim aşamasıyla ilgili olaraksa metnin kullanıcı tarafından alımlanması, deneysel çalışmalar bağlamında algısal ve bilişsel yönleriyle ele alınmıştır. Sesli betimleme araştırmalarındaki bu yönelimlerin dikkate alınması, Türkiye'deki dilbilimsel sesli betimleme çalışmaları açısından yol gösterici olabileceği gibi Türkçeye özgü en iyi uygulamaların oluşmasına da katkıda bulunabilir.

“…The authors even compare the time devoted to preparing an AD script for a two-hour film according to ITC (International Test Commission) guidelines (up to 60 hours) to the time it would take to translate it (24 hours). Finally, Remael and Vercauteren (2010) go deeper into the topic and look at the specific challenges presented by translating existing AD scripts. Using two case studies, they highlight the two main types of challenges observed: firstly, the frequency and specific usage of certain grammatical forms, and secondly, the transfer of cultural references due to the possible distance between the original film, the AD used as a pivot translation and the target audience.…”

This article presents the results of an exploratory study which assesses the machine translation of audio descriptions as offering a possible solution to increase accessibility in multilingual environments. Accessibility is understood to encompass two different categories: sensorial accessibility (in this specific case, for the blind and visually impaired, who cannot access the visual content of audiovisual productions), and linguistic accessibility (for those who want to access this content in their own language). The article presents some thoughts on translation as a means of promoting multilingualism, on the feasibility of translating audio descriptions, and on machine translation as applied to this audiovisual translation mode, before summarising the findings of the present study and, most importantly, opening up new potential avenues for research.key words Audiovisual translation, accessibility, audio description, machine translation, multilingualism. However, no empirical evidence is provided in either of the previous papers.…”
