Background: Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder in which the renal tubules become structurally abnormal, resulting in the development and growth of multiple cysts within the kidneys. Numerous studies on PKD have been published in the literature. However, no such articles used medical subject headings (MeSH terms) to predict the number of article citations. This study aimed to predict the number of article citations using 100 top-cited PKD articles (T100PKDs) and dissect the characteristics of influential authors and affiliated counties since 2010.Methods: We searched the PubMed Central® (PMC) database and downloaded 100PKDs from 2010. Citation analysis was performed to compare the dominant countries and authors using social network analysis (SNA). MeSh terms were analyzed by referring to their citations in articles and used to predict the number of article citations using its correlation coefficients (CC) to examine the prediction effect. Results:We observed that the top 3 countries and journals in 100PKDs were the US (65%), Netherlands (7%), France (5%), J Am Soc Nephrol (21%), Clin J Am Soc Nephrol (8%), and N Engl J Med (6%); the most cited article (PMID = 23121377 with 473 citations) was authored by Vicente Torres from the US in 2012; and the most influential MeSH terms were drug therapy (3087.2), genetics (2997.83), and therapeutic use (2760.7). MeSH terms were evident in the prediction power of the number of article citations (CC = 0.37; t = 3.92; P < .01, n = 100).Conclusions: A breakthrough was made by developing a method using MeSH terms to predict the number of article citations based on 100PKDs. MeSH terms are evident in predicting article citations that can be applied to future research, not limited to PKD, as we did in this study.

Aim The aim of this study is to analyze the studies on TAVI with the bibliometric method and to perform a scientiometric analysis of the top 100 most cited articles for researchers. Methods The Thomson Reuters Web of Science database was searched for all relevant articles using the terms “TAVR” and “TAVI”. The results were ordered according to the number of citations. We also analyzed the 100 most cited articles (T100) by annual average citation count (ACpY), years, research methods, author, institution, journal, funding agencies, and keywords. Analyses were also performed between the total number of citations, ACpY, impact factors, and publication time. Results The article titled “Transcatheter Aortic‐Valve Implantation for Aortic Stenosis in Patients Who Cannot Undergo Surgery” was the most cited article (n = 4616). The article titled “Transcatheter Aortic‐Valve Replacement with a Balloon‐Expandable Valve in Low‐Risk Patients” had the highest ACpY count (n = 497). The United States was the country that contributed the most to the T100 list. While the journal that contributed the most with 32 articles was “Journal of the American College Of Cardiology”, the journal in which the top 10 most cited articles were published most frequently was the “New England Journal of Medicine”. In addition, the most publications were made in 2012. Conclusion Although this bibliometric analysis study has some limitations, it allows the most cited publications on TAVI to be analyzed systematically and provides scientific contributions.

Background. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of death because of cancer globally in the past years. To inspire researchers with new targets and path-breaking directions for lung cancer research, this study is aimed at exploring the research trends and emerging hotspots in the lung cancer surgery literature in the recent decade. Methods. This cross-sectional study combined bibliometric and network analysis techniques to undertake a quantitative analysis of lung cancer surgery literature. Dimensions database was searched using keywords in a 10-year period (2012-2021). Publications were characterized by publication year, research countries, field citation ratio, cooperation status, research area, and emerging hotspots. Results. Overall, global scholarly outputs of lung cancer surgery had almost doubled during the recent decade, with China, Japan, and the United States leading the way, while Denmark and Belgium predominated in terms of scientific influence. Network analysis showed that international cooperation accounted for a relatively small portion in lung cancer surgery research, and the United States, China, and Europe were the prominent centers of international cooperation network. In the recent decade, research of lung cancer surgery majored in prevention, biomedical imaging, rehabilitation, and genetics, and the emerging research hotspots transformed into immunotherapy. Research on immunotherapy showed a considerable increase in scientific influence in the latest year. Conclusions. The study findings are expected to provide researchers and policymakers with interesting insights into the changing trends of lung cancer surgery research and further generate evidence to support decision-making in improving prognosis for patients with lung cancer.
