The technique of coital alignment and its relation to female orgasmic response and simultaneous orgasm

Abstract: To enhance male-female sexual compatibility, principles of physical alignment were formulated to make clitoral contact possible in coitus. The Coital Alignment technique combines (a) the "riding high" variation of the "missionary" coital posture, with (b) genitally focused pressure-counterpressure stimulus applied in the coordination of sexual movement. It was hypothesized that the Alignment technique would correlate with high frequency of female orgasm and partner simultaneity. A questionnaire was given to a … Show more

“…In section 8f, Laan et al [1] provide grudging acknowledgment of the coital alignment technique (an intercourse-based treatment for orgasmic dysfunction), and mischaracterize it as simply increasing clitoral stimulation during intercourse (the approach relies heavily on coital synchronization [41]). Laan et al [1] also report that the coital alignment technique was equally effective as directed masturbation, but the cited study actually showed that masturbation was inferior to the coital alignment technique in improving intercourse orgasm consistency [42].…”

“…The general intervention included improving the ratio of positive to negative reinforcement, enhancing couple communication skills, and teaching couples general conflict resolution skills. Orgasm consistency training includes several sequential steps for training couples in directed masturbation, followed by couple-involved exercises (e.g., sensate focus) and coital alignment techniques (see details in Eichel, Eichel, & Kule, 1988). All treatments were conducted in groups with no more than five couples, and throughout the course of treatment therapists coached couples on how to alter sexual interactions and disorder-relevant intimate communication.…”

“…This demonstrates the fact that coitus mimics masturbation, and is less effective for orgasm than masturbation, because the woman is passive or her movement is inhibited by the man's. A pedagogy for "effective stimulation" designated as the CAT-which defines a coordinated form of sexual movement in which the male and female partner are exactingly equal participants-appears to be a unique innovation in the literature (Eichel, 1981;Eichel & Eichel, 1977, 1980Eichel et al, 1988). However, there is evidence that some individuals, couples, and even "primitive" (Marshall & Suggs, 1971) societies have arrived at the same basic technique spontaneously.…”

“…The anatomic design of the male and female genitals and the interplay of the two pelvises allow for the movement to be coordinated in a natural rhythm (Eichel & Nobile, 1992). Eichel et al 1988. Used with permission from the authors.…”
