The synthesis and the structure of a new [H3N-(CH2)8-NH3][H2PO4]2 is described. This compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, with the centric space group Pbcn and the following unit cell parameters: a = 7.2887 (4), b = 9.1728 (6), c = 23.2169 (19) Å, Z = 4 and V = 1552.23 (18) Å3. The crystal structure has been solved and refined to R = 0.074 and R(w) = 0.173. The [H2PO4]- entities are associated by O---H...O strong hydrogen bonds to form layers. These latters are interconnected with the organic entities via (N)-H...O hydrogen bonds. In this atomic arrangement, H bonds between the different species play an important role in the three-dimensional network. This compound has also been characterized by infrared spectroscopy, solid state MAS-NMR and thermal analysis

The first organic-inorganic hybrid was synthesized with bromic acid (Coffey et al, 1996) and the other two compounds were prepared with arsenic (Oueslati et al, 2005a) and phosphoric (Oueslati et al, 2005b) acids. Hybrid materials, fabricated by the combination of inorganic and organic components, have potential applications in chemistry and are endowed with the advantages of both building elements. There are several types of intermolecular interactions present in these hybrid compounds, including electrostatic forces, π-π stacking and hydrogen-bonding interactions, the latter playing an important role in the construction of three-dimensional architectures and stabilizing supramolecular crystal structures. Analysis of the intermolecular interactions and their influence on packing modes therefore requires focused scientific attention. Four new organic-inorganic salts, namely 2-amino-4-methyl-3-nitropyridinium hydrogen sulfate, CHNO·HSO, bis(2-amino-4-methyl-3-nitropyridinium) sulfate, 2CHNO·SO, 2-amino-3-methylpyridinium hydrogen sulfate, CHN·HSO, and bis(2-amino-3-methylpyridinium) sulfate monohydrate, 2CHN·SO·HO, have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction. The crystal structures are stabilized by intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds, as well as by weak π-π stacking and lp-π (lp is lone pair) interactions. Hirshfeld surface analysis was employed in order to study intermolecular interactions.
