The Symptoms of Atopic Dermatitis in NC/Nga Mice Were Significantly Relieved by the Water Extract ofLiriope platyphylla

Abstract: Atopic dermatitis is an well-known skin disease showing inflammatory, chronically relapsing, noncontagious and pruritic symptoms. The aims of this study were to investigate the effects of Liriope platyphylla (LP) on atopic dermatitis of NC/Nga mice. To achieve this, NC/Nga mice were treated with four different conditions including vehicle, phthalic anhydride (PA), PA+5% LP and PA+10% LP, and the changes of immune-related factors were detected after 2 weeks. The pathological phenotypes of atopic dermatitis such… Show more

“…On the other hand, the number of infiltrated mast cells decreased in the PA+FSC-treated group. This result was very similar to a previous study that investigated the therapeutic effects of Liriope platyphylla in a PA-induced AD mouse model [44,45]. Therfore, mast cells are an important marker to detect the effects of various components on AD therapy.…”

“…In addition, a solution of RLP extracts was concentrated to dry pellets in a rotary evaporator (EYELA, Tokyo, Japan) and stored at -80℃ until needed. Analyses for the general compounds in LP and RLP were performed as previously described [11,16]. …”

“…Also, the differentiation of naive PC12 cells as well as improvement of learning and memory in mice were induced LP through upregulation of NGF secretion [7-10]. Furthermore, it relieved symptoms of atopic dermatitis in NC/Nga mice after phthalic anhydride (PA) treatment [11]. …”

“…L. platyphylla has long been used in traditional oriental herbal medicine for the treatment of asthma, bronchial and lung inflammation, obesity, diabetes, neuro degenerative diseases, and atopic dermatitis [2-7]. Of these therapeutic effects, the potential of L. platyphylla for treating obesity and diabetes has been intensively researched.…”
