This research was conducted since most of the students still had problems in learning English, especially in vocabulary mastery. Most of the students had difficulties mastering vocabulary, lack of practice in English and students were not motivated to study English. Thus, this research aimed at finding out the effect of using Pictionary Game on students’ Vocabulary Mastery in seventh grade in SMPN 2 Bukittinggi. A quasi-experimental design was used in this study. This study employed two classes: experimental and control. The population was drawn from SMPN 2 Bukittinggi seventh-grade students. In this study, the sample was 28 students from the control group and 31 students from the experimental group. To analyze the data collection procedure, a t-test formula was used. According to the results for the experiment class's pre-test and post-test scores, the t-obtained (12,92) was greater than the t-table (2,042) with the degree of freedom (df) 30 and (0,025). The t- obtained in the calculation of the post-test for both classes was (2,011), which was higher than the t-table (1,672) with (df) 57 and =0,05. So, it can be concluded that the entire hypothesis were accepted. It has been indicated that using a Pictionary game can assist students in improving their vocabulary mastery.

Pictionary game is a fun and enjoyable guessing word game that can motivate students to learn English. This research deals with improving students’ vocabulary by using the Pictionary game for the second-grade students in SMP N 1 Raya. This research aims to determine whether the Pictionary game can increase students’ vocabulary. This study applied Classroom Action Research (CAR). The sample of the research was the second-grade students of SMP N 1 Raya in academic 2021/2022. The writer used two cycles that occur of two meetings. The finding of this study was that the Pictionary game can improve students’ vocabulary. It can be proved from the calculation of the test in both cycles. In the pre-test, the mean of the students’ score was 62,18. In post-test cycle I, the mean of vocabulary score was 72,84 and the mean score in post-test cycle II was 77,09. Based on the data, it could be concluded that there was a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary by using the Pictionary game. Based on the research, it is suggested that English teachers should use the Pictionary game as a technique in teaching vocabulary.

The present study investigated effective techniques of teaching vocabulary in an Afghan EFL setting. It also attempts to determine the impacts of the participants’ demographic profile ((i.e., gender, age, first language, and teaching experiences) on their responses. The data were collected from 93 randomly selected English teachers through a questionnaire containing 25 items. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26.0 was employed to analyze the data. To answer the reserach questions, descriptive and inferential statistics (independent sample T-test and one-way ANOVA tests) were used. The findings revealed that the overall attitude of Afghan EFL instructors towards applying effective techniques of teaching vocabulary in an Afghan EFL setting is positive. The respondents also reported that they warmly welcomed the techniques which led students to enhance their motivation for learning English vocabulary. Moreover, the study revealed that the participants’ gender, age, first language, and teaching experiences had a signficant impact on their responses.
