“…The rhizocephalans that infest small coastal decapods have been studied to a greater degree, in particular, the minute rhizocephalan Peltogaster reticulatus that parasitizes the coastal hermit crab Pagurus proximus and belongs, like B. callosus , to the family Peltogastridae. Also rather well studied is Polyascus (Sacculina) polygenea , a parasite of the coastal crab Hemigrapsus sanguineus [9,13,14,18,19]. These species of rhizocephalans and their hosts, decapods that have no commercial importance, but are easily available as a material for studies, could be considered as model objects for studies on rhizocephalans and their relationships with the hosts.…”
