This article offers a practice perspective on Community Development from the ground up regarding health and well-being. It advocates for a departure from traditional Community Engagement approaches, arguing that they fall short of relocating authority to communities as influential health producers. The author affirms that Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approaches are preferable Community Engagement practices, as they offer more authentic pathways toward community-centred population health and wellbeing. The article concludes that once effective ground-up community development has been initiated supplementary efforts at reform and relief are more likely to have desired and sustained impact. Наприкінці ХХ століття у міжнародній практиці соціальної роботи набув поширення підхід, орієнтований на сильній сторони. Його використовують у практичній роботі з клієнтами, у супервізії соціальних працівників, для забезпечення якості надання соціальних послуг в організації. Мета статті – визначити етичне підґрунтя підходу, орієнтованого на сильні сторони, та схарактеризувати принципи цього підходу у практичній соціальній роботі з клієнтами. У дослідженні, проведеному у рамках інтерпретативної парадигми, використано якісний контент-аналіз 28 закордонних наукових публікацій. Визначено, що підхід, орієнтований на сильні сторони, вважають альтернативою та викликом традиційним проблемно-орієнтованим та дефіцитарним практикам соціальної роботи. Втручання на основі цього підходу опираються на силу та ресурси клієнтів, однак зважають й на наявність слабких сторін. У фокусі уваги перебуває бажаний результат клієнта, якого розглядають як експерта у власній життєвій ситуації, а взаємодія у процесі втручання орієнтована на співпрацю та партнерство. Розглянуто ознаки підходу, орієнтованого на сильні сторони, виокремлені Реппом, Салібеєм та Саліваном (2008), Олівер (2014) та іншими дослідниками. Проаналізовано принципи підходу, орієнтованого на сильні сторони клієнтів, запропоновані Геммонд (2010). Проведений аналіз дає підстави для твердження, що підхід, орієнтований на сильні сторони клієнта, належить до клієнтоцентрованих підходів, які визнають право клієнта на участь та самовизначення, самостійний вибір у процесі втручання. Він базується на фундаментальному переконанні, що соціальна робота – це співпраця між соціальними працівниками та клієнтами, за якої, останні є не споживачами, а співвиробниками соціальної підтримки. Водночас у науковій літературі наявні свідчення щодо етичних дилем та етичних конфліктів, зумовлені необхідністю врахування соціальним працівником експертності клієнта.
