This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the tactical skills used by amateur and professional league football players and their excellent performance levels. A total of 906 licensed football players, including 671 male and 235 female athletes, who play at amateur and professional levels in football leagues, participated in the research. Three different forms were used as data collection tools: Personal Information Form, Tactical Skills in Sports and Excellent Performance in Sports Scale. According to the findings of the study, 25.9 of the football players participating in the study were female and 74.1% were male. While the mean age of female football players was 20.06±3.18, the average age of male football players was determined as 23.34±5.62. In the study, a significant difference was found between the sub-dimensions of tactical skills in sports and the total scores of male and female football players. Similarly, it has been observed that male athletes have higher scores than female athletes in excellent performance scores. Creativity and Tactical Skill Profiles of Handball Players

The purpose of this study is to examine the creativity and tactical skill levels of the athletes (n=259) who actively continued their sports life in handball in Turkey in the 2020-2021 season. In order to determine athlete’s creativity levels, we used the “Creativity Questionnaire for Athletes” and for tactical skills, we used the “Tactical Skills Questionnaire for Sports”. We examined the relationships between these two dependent variables and the independent variables of gender, sports age and league category. As a result of the regression analysis, it was determined that the creativity level of the athletes was predicted by tactical skills at a level of approximately 74%. In terms of the variable of the handball players' years of playing handball, a low positive correlation was found in the sub-dimensions of the Tactical Skills Questionnaire. This relationship is statistically significant in other sub-dimensions, except for the Knowledge of Ball Movements sub-dimension of the Tactical Skills Questionnaire. The same variable was examined in terms of the creativity level and a low level of positive correlation was found. This relationship was found to be statistically significant. Appropriate training settings and environments should be designed in order to develop the creativity skills of the athletes. The similarity of the training environment to real competition conditions can greatly contribute to the development and use of creativity and tactical skills in sports. Background: Mental training is based on the premise that psychological factors enhance or deteriorate performance and that these psychological factors can be optimized by training. Researchers have developed different methods to measure these factors, including behavioral tests and questionnaires. The Sport Mental Training Questionnaire (SMTQ) is a novel and multifaceted psychometric scale with 20 items developed to assess sports mental training across 5 dimensions, including foundational skills, performance skills, interpersonal skills, self-talk, and mental imagery. Objectives: The present study evaluated the validity and factor structure of the Persian version of SMTQ. It aimed to adapt SMTQ to Persian to present the validation of the scale in the sports context. Methods: The original version of SMTQ was translated and back-translated into Persian based on the established guidelines, followed by a pilot study. A total of 364 athletes (mean age = 26.27 ± 9.27) participated in this research, of whom 218 (59.90%) were male, and 146 (40.1%) were female. The participants were recruited using a web-based survey. Descriptive statistics, Cronbach α coefficient for internal reliability, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and independent t test were used to evaluate psychometric properties. Results: None of the items of the 20-item questionnaire were removed. The results supported the reliability of the Persian version of SMTQ (Cronbach α = 0.84). CFA supported its validity, the model fitted the data well (χ2/df = 2.15; root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.056, Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) and comparative fit index (CFI) > 0.9; parsimonious CFI (PCFI) = 0.751). We supported the Persian version criterion validity of SMTQ by showing that high-level athletes scored higher on all mental training subscales than low-level athletes. Conclusions: The findings support that SMTQ is a reliable and valid instrument to assess mental training among Iranian athletes.
