The spleen size in patients undergoing hemodialysis

Abstract: Introduction: Inflammation promotes the progression of chronic renal failure, and the start of dialysis worsens inflammation. The enlargement of the spleen is associated with inflammation, and patients on hemodialysis may show a large spleen. The aim of the present study was to compare the spleen size of patients undergoing hemodialysis versus controls to update this thread. Methods: Controls and patients were eligible to participate in the study provided they were negative for serological markers of hepatiti… Show more

“…Moreover, the direct correlation between spleen size and SN echogenic area in RTRs, seen in this study, suggests that this finding may have similar underlying mechanisms. There is evidence supporting the role of inflammation in spleen enlargement commonly found in CKD [ 57 ]. This finding changed the study focus, as it was not designed to search for differences in SN echogenic area between different immunosuppressive regimens.…”

“…YFSJ treatment can effectively reduce the level of proinflammatory factors in serum, thereby reducing the degree of inflammatory infiltration of muscle cells. At the same time, the size of the spleen can also reflect the level of inflammation in vivo to a certain extent [ 30 ]. We also found that the spleen of mice was significantly enlarged after tumor cell inoculation and decreased after high-dose YFSJ treatment compared with the CRF group.…”
