The spectrum of cutaneous lymphomas in Japan: a study of 62 cases based on the World Health Organization Classification

Abstract: PCL in this study showed a similar incidence to that of other institutions in Japan, while also demonstrating different frequencies from that of other countries, suggesting that the relative frequency of different PCL subtypes differ according to geographical location, similar to previous reports of systemic malignant lymphoma.

“…6,7,10,13 This may be due to the exclusion of some less bulky nasal cases with limited diagnostic samples from our study. Referral bias is also important since nasal and cutaneous disease may be referred initially to otolaryngology or dermatology centers, 21,22 and the diagnostic material may not be kept after review at the tertiary oncology center. This may also explain the lower incidence of extranasal disease in Japan, which is discordant with previous retrospective series.…”

“…La diseminación a médula ósea en un estudio retrospectivo de 57 sujetos fue positivo en 3 pacientes, siendo dos de ellos linfoma cutáneo primario de célula B tipo centro folicular y el restante tipo cutáneo marginal, y tan solo 3 estudios hablan de la realización de biopsia de médula ósea como procedimiento de rutina (6,8). Así mismo una biopsia positiva cambia tanto el pronóstico, sobrevida y tratamiento a seguir.…”

“…The estimated annual incidence of this condition is 1:100,000 in the USA [66]. The proportion of the T-cell subtype is higher in Korea (81.6-84.3 %) [67,68] and Japan (80-86.8 %) [69,70] than it is in the USA (71.3 %) and Europe (77.6 %) [71,72]. The most common subtypes in Western countries are MF/SS, CD30?…”
