“…Similar observations have been made by various workers for different pIRIR signals (e.g. Buylaert et al ., ; Schatz et al ., ; Sohbati et al ., ; Tsukamoto et al ., ; Veit et al ., ; Li et al, ; Qiu and Zhou, ). In the second method, we followed a similar approach; three aliquots per sample were first bleached for 4 h in a Hönle SOL2 solar simulator.…”

“…Sand dunes have accumulated on top of each other during the Quaternary implying that phases of eolian activity are a recurrent component of the local geomorphic evolution. Intercalated buried paleosols reveal distinct time intervals when pedogenetic processes directly affected the eolian sand parent material (Fuenzalida, ; Paskoff, ; Veit et al , ). The factors that led to the formation of vast dune fields in central coastal Chile have long been a subject of debate (e.g.…”

“…pluvials) and that formation of soils upon dunes occurred as a result (Paskoff and Manríquez, ). Therefore, the occurrence of paleosols is linked to humid climate periods that interrupted extensive eolian morphogenesis in the region (Veit et al , ).…”

“…They found that fluvial and alluvial processes were active in the early to mid-Quaternary, although modern river flow is rare and largely confined to the mountains in the north. To answer the fundamental scientific question about relationship between aeolian processes and global climate change, Veit et al (2015) present the first terrestrial record in Chile, consisting of coastal aeolian sand and dunes with intercalated palaeosols, covering the last 190 ka. On the basis of OSL chronology, they found that palaeosols formed in periods with stable surface conditions and a relatively dense vegetation cover, and sand accumulation occurred while aeolian activity increased under dry periods.…”
