The Situation and Challenges of Pineapple Industry in China

Abstract: Pineapple is the third largest tropical fruit in China. Pineapple industry played important roles in developing economies in tropical-and subtropical-areas in China. However, the structure of varieties is simple. The harvesting period is centralized. The price of pineapple fruits is often low. These challenges hindered the further development of pineapple industry. The people engaged in pineapple industry should select and cultivate new varieties with higher qualities and that can be harvested in a longer peri… Show more

“…As the third-most significant tropical fruit of China [ 2 ], the pineapple requires attention in terms of better nutrition management and identification of possible genes/pathways that may be improved in this respect. Fruit translucency due to water accumulation is a crucial factor that reduces its test and flavor, while making the fruit weak and vulnerable to mechanical damage [ 8 ], leading to up to a 30% loss in harvest [ 10 ].…”

“…is widely planted in more than 80 countries and regions between the South and the Tropic of Cancer. It is one of the major crops in tropical and subtropical countries [ 1 ] and the third most important tropical fruit in China, utilizing 70,000 hectares of land [ 2 ]. In 2019, China ranked 5th in pineapple production, with an annual harvest of 1727 thousand metric tons [ 3 ].…”

“…This product, as opposed to synthetically produced chemical vinegar, can be produced and marketed in large quantities due to its therapeutic effects and environmental friendliness. Tanamool et al [ 116 ] reported a potentially newly isolated thermotolerant acetic acid bacteria (TH-AAB) with ethanol and acetic acid tolerance that was found to be very effective in the production of vinegar from pineapple peels and as an alternative, low-cost raw material via simultaneous vinegar fermentation (SVF). Their findings indicated that at an initial pH of 5.5, using the whole pineapple peel with the addition of diammonium phosphate (DAP) and MgSO 4 produced slightly more acetic acid than juicing.…”

“…These products must also be well structured, engineered, and suitable for the best foods and their products. Bioplastic production is limited [ 116 ]. To minimize the cost of the enzymatic hydrolysis pre-treatment and purification procedure and achieve high output, pineapple waste must first undergo pre-treatment.…”
