The Significance of the Expression of FBXO31 in Gastric Cancer

Abstract:

Loss of Heterozygosity (LOH) is commonly considered to be one of a reason when some genes lose their function. Numbers of tumor suppressor genes are existing on the LOH lesion and chromosome 16q24 had been reported as a LOH region in gastric cancer. Little is known about what kind of tumor suppressor genes locates around the position. F-box protein, (FBXO31) is a candidate tumor suppressor gene encoded in chromosome 16q24.3 and LOH of the gene was reported in breast cancer, hepatocell… Show more

“…Histone deacetylases (HDACs) are an important class of epigenetic modulators that regulate the activity and expression of numerous proteins in cellular processes. Several studies have found elevated levels of HDAC in close association with various malignancies, including neuroblastoma, 243 gastric, 244 ovarian, 245 colon, 246 and multiple myeloma, 247 with poor patient outcomes. Hence, efforts have been made to design HDAC-responsive drug delivery systems.…”

“…For example, increased levels of HDAC 5 have been correlated with metastatic PNETs. Similarly, elevated expressions of HDACs 1, 2, and 3 are linked to poor outcomes in gastric and ovarian cancers [154,155]. Both histone acetylation and methylation have been found involved in the regulation of multiple signaling pathways in cancer development [153].…”

“…The level of HDAC1 expression can also serve as a good diagnostic and prognostic marker of malignant neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract [261], especially in colorectal carcinoma [263,264]. When analyzing the relationship between HDAC1 expression and clinical features, it was found that the activity of this isoform of histone deacetylase was higher (1) in patients with stages III-IV than in patients with stages I-II of gastric cancer [265][266][267] and liver cancer [268]; (2) in patients with poorly differentiated liver cancer [269] and adenocarcinoma of the large intestine than in patients with medium-and high-grade cancers [270]; and (3) in groups of persons with positive lymph node metastasis in gastric [265,271,272] and hepatic [268] carcinomas and distant metastases in colorectal carcinoma [263]. A recent study of the possible mechanism of action of histone deacetylase 1, conducted by Yu et al [273], demonstrated that HDAC1 is involved in the stimulation of the proliferation of malignant gastric cells by enhancing the expression of long non-coding RNAs that regulate the activity of both oncogenes and tumor suppressors [274][275][276][277].…”
