The significance of IL-1β +3953C>T, IL-6 -174G>C and -596G>A, TNF-α -308G>A gene polymorphisms and 86 bp variable number tandem repeat polymorphism of IL-1RN in bronchopulmonary dysplasia in infants born before 32 weeks of gestation

Abstract: IntroductionBronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a chronic lung disease that affects primarily preterm infants. Genetic factors are also taken into consideration in the pathogenesis of BPD. Genetic predispositions to higher production of inflammation mediators seem to be crucial. Material and methodsThe aim of this study was to evaluate the possible relationship between polymorphisms: interleukin-1β +3953 C>T, interleukin-6 -174 G>C and -596 G>A, tumour necrosis factor -308 G>A and interleukin-1RN VNTR 86bp and… Show more

“…G replaces C and the C allele has a protective function because it is associated with a lower secretion of IL‐6 37 . The CC homozygous causes a lower production of IL‐6 38 . The possible presence of this polymorphism in these patients could also explain the different results in the studies.…”

“…In BPD infants, IL-1 β , IL-6, TNF- α , and IL-10 cytokine levels were altered in the amniotic fluid [ 16 ], cord blood [ 17 ], and tracheal aspirate samples [ 2 ]. TNF- α single nucleotide polymorphisms could predict BPD onset and severity in preterm neonates [ 18 ]. Ehrhardt et al reported that TNF- α in tracheal aspirate samples was associated with BPD severity [ 19 ].…”

“…Our study found that the cytokines IL-1β, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α were increased in the BPD group on days 14–28 significantly, whereas IL-10 was decreased. In the previous study, IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-10 cytokine levels were altered in the amniotic fluid ( Yoon et al, 1997 ), cord blood ( Rocha et al, 2012 ), and tracheal aspirate samples ( Yilmaz et al, 2017 ) in BPD infants ( Szpecht et al, 2017 ). Therefore, we speculated that these cytokines may be related to the lung injury of BPD infants.…”
