“…When the concentration of SDS is higher than its FCMC, the I max RRS -c curve has two inflexions, one in 25 mM and another in 69 mM, while the conductivity just follow a linear variation as a function of SDS concentration. The value of 69 mM conforms to the value of SCMC of 70 mM in previous literature determined by light scattering [20] and fluorescence probe method [21]. But for the concentration of 25 mM, we guess that the inflexion may attribute to the structural transition when some spherical micelles may aggregate to ellipsoidal, oblatoid or lamellar ones.…”

“…At this concentration, the alkyl chains start to aggregate, which is driven by hydrophobic attractive forces, and the SDS molecules began to form spherical micelles. Our FCMC value was consistent with the results obtained by light scattering [40] and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) absorption measurements [17]. Previous studies have shown that the conformation of the SDS alkyl chains change to all trans conformation and become orderly under this condition [16,41].…”

“…When the concentration of SDS was more than ∼69 mmol/L, the peak position of ν as (CH 2 ) showed a weak red shift. Previous studies have shown that this concentration (69 mmol/L) was the SCMC [19,22,40]. At the higher concentration, the SDS in solution gradually transformed from spherical micelles to rod-like micelles [4].…”

“…Partition coefficients for several solutes which to our knowledge have not been previously studied are reported here. Furthermore, the work was done at very low concentration of the solutes, at concentrations of SDS below the second critical micelle concentration 70,71 (the concentration at which micelles change from spherical to rodlike structures), and with no added salt or organic modifiers in the SDS solution. This is in contrast to many of the other reported measurements which have been conducted with essentially saturated solutions of solute, [72][73][74][75] added salt and/or organic modifiers, 72,[75][76][77] or SDS concentrations above the second critical micelle concentration.…”
