“…The significant CBT correlation with all international prototypes may indicate an integrative trend in this approach, which is a notion introduced by Alford and Beck 28 and is currently growing with the development of third-wave therapies. 43 Another hypothesis raised is that the concentration of responses -internalizing and externalizing -influenced the correlation between the prototypes because factor 1 encompasses treatments for children with different needs. The weak and statistically non-significant correlations between both Brazilian PDT prototypes and the international CBT prototype presented a reverse trend to that reported by Yoshida et al, 44 who indicated that Brazilian psychodynamic psychotherapists working with adult patients tend to adopt more integrative approaches than their North-American counterparts.…”

When people are in abandoned and abused child mode, they may feel shame, inferiority, pain and fear of abandonment (Farrell et al, 2014). As a maladaptive coping mode, the detached protector mode may be activated to protect people from the pain of being vulnerable (Arntz, Bernstein, & Jacob, 2013).…”

“…Women in our study had experienced emotional deprivation, defectiveness and mistrust-abuse schemas, and so feeling self-compassion was difficult. According to schema therapy (Farrell et al, 2014), participants' vulnerable child side-that is, the suffering inner child experiencing fear, sadness and helplessness-is in need of protection, acceptance, soothing and nurturing. Therefore, we used schema therapy's experiential techniques to help the women move into the vulnerable child side and experience the needs of their child side.…”

“…The ST for Complex Trauma programme was adapted from the GST for BPD programme by Farrell and Shaw (2012) and from Farrell et al (2014) by R.Y. to focus on complex trauma symptoms and psychoeducation regarding the symptoms and neurobiology of trauma, understanding trauma in mode terms and the shorter, more intensive period of treatment.…”
