The Role of single- and multi-walled Carbon Nanotube in Breast Cancer Treatment

Abstract: Numerous studies have been conducted to design new strategies for breast cancer treatment. Past studies have shown a wide range of carbon-nanomaterials properties, such as single- and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs and MWCNTs) in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. In this regard, the current study aims to review the role of both SWCNTs and MWCNTs in breast cancer treatment and diagnosis. For reaching this goal, we reviewed the literature by using various searching engines such as Scopus, PubMed, Goo… Show more

“…Due to the cage-like structure of CNTs, the delivered drugs can be isolated from the solvent medium. Both SWCNTs and MWCNTs have great potential to be used in breast cancer and increase diagnostic accuracy [248].…”

“…In this study, FA-functionalized MWCNTs were used to entrap magnetic nanoparticles incorporated with cisplatin. The nanotubes were dragged to the lymph nodes using an external magnet and the drug release was achieved for several days in the tumour cells [ 69 , 70 ]. To make CNTs smart, they should be functionalized chemically or physically [ 71 ].…”

“…CNTs, attracting much attention during the last decade, contain unified rolling cylinders made of graphene sheets. These materials exhibit supreme chemical, mechanical, and physical characterizations [42,43]. There are two classes of CNTs, including multiwalled (MWNTs) and single-walled (SWNTs) based on their graphene layer (that constitutes only one nanotube) number [44].…”
