Background: Socket preservation using bone graft is one way to minimise resorption and maximise the bone formation process. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) is an inflammatory cytokine that affects bone regenerating osteoblast activity, while osterix (Osx) is an osteoblast-specific transcription factor that activates gene receptors during pre-osteoblast differentiation. The hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffold from crab shells (Portunus pelagicus) has osteoconduction properties. Purpose: To analyse the decrease of TNF-α expression and the increase of Osx expression and the correlation between these two in the post-extraction socket after the transplantation of a crab shell HA scaffold. Methods: The lower left incisors of Cavia cobaya (n = 24) were extracted and divided into four groups: the first and second groups were control groups on Day 7 and Day 14 (K7 and K14), the third and fourth groups were treatment groups (P7 and P14). The statistical analysis used was a multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) with a significance level of 0.05. Results: A MANOVA test showed that the use of crab shell HA scaffolds led to a significant difference (p < 0.05) in TNF-α expression (p = 0.01) and Osx expression (p = 0.01). A Pearson correlation test result showed a strong inverse correlation between TNF-α and Osx expressions (p = 0.00 and r = -0.78). Conclusion: The transplantation of HA scaffolds from crab shells can decrease TNF-α expression but increase Osx expression in the post-extraction socket of C. cobayas. Furthermore, an inverse correlation was found between TNF-α and Osx.

Introduction: Tooth extraction can result in loss of alveolar bone. The application of biomaterials Bovine Amniotic Membrane (BAM) that containing growth factors and collagen is expected to play a role in socket preservation. This study aimed to observe the effect of BAM application on the growth of osteoblasts, osteocytes, and collagen in histological preparate of the alveolar bone socket of Sprague Dawley rats (SD). Methods: 16 male SD rats were used in this group. SD rats were extracted on the mandible central incisivus. Afterward, it was divided into two groups, specifically the control group (without treatment) and the treatment group (BAM application). After extraction, the treatment group was applied with BAM with a size of 1.5 mm x 10 mm in socket alveolar bone. On the 14th and 28th day, the rats were euthanized and the alveolar bone socket of mandibular tissue was taken and stained with Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) and Masson Trichrome (MT). Results: The results of all groups showed that the number of osteoblasts and collagen thickness was higher on day 14th compared to day 28th, while osteocytes continued to increase from day 14th to 28th. The thickness of collagen, osteoblasts, and osteocytes in groups with BAM application was higher than without application. Statistical results showed that there were significant differences between groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: The application of BAM can act as material preservation socket. This biomaterial can accelerate recovery by increasing collagen thickness, osteoblasts, and osteocytes.

<p>Penyakit <em>stroke</em> merupakan salah satu penyebab kematian terbesar di dunia. Penyakit ini disebabkan karena tersumbatnya aliran darah dan oksigen ke otak sehingga aliran darah ke otak dapat berkurang karena pembuluh darah mengalami penyempitan, penyumbatan atau pecahnya pembuluh darah tersebut yang mengakibatkan kelumpuhan pada beberapa bagian atau seluruh tubuh. Untuk mengembalikan fungsi tubuh pasien terutama anggota penting tubuh seperti tangan dibutuhkan proses rehabilitasi. Maka diperlukan proses rehabilitasi, salah satunnya degan cara menggunakan sarung tangan elektrik untuk meningkatkan elastisitas otot serta jaringan di area persendian tangan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan jumlah sampel 20 orang. Pengisian kuesioner analisis kebutuhan menggunakan metode skala likert dengan melihat persentase tiap-tiap nilai variabel dengan hasil analisis sebagai berikut: S (setuju) 37 %, CS (cukup setuju) 31%, TS (tidak setuju) 17%, SS (sangat setuju) 12%, dan STS (sangat tidak setuju) 3%. Dari hasil ini maka diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa penderita stroke tangan menyetujui pembuatan sarung tangan elektrik untuk membantu proses rehabilitasi mereka. Oleh karenanya purwarupa sarung tangan elektrik akhirnya telah berhasil dibuat dan telah diuji cobakan.</p>
