Abstract: Communities, intended as self-organized informal groups, are much less structured than nonprofit organizations typically considered by Cross-Sector Social Partnership (CSSP) studies. Building on the empirical investigation of a real CSSP, this article offers an in-depth analysis of the ambivalent dynamics implied by partnership with such communities. Our findings indicate that the mechanisms that create room for innovative collaboration opportunities made available by these communities (such as co-innovation, … Show more

“…The notion of collaborative governance of public services involving nonprofit and public-sector actors has come to policy and academic attention over the last few decades (Ansell & Gash, 2008; Boyer et al, 2016; Cheng, 2019; Emerson et al, 2012; Maiolini et al, 2022; Mosley & Wong, 2021). It has emerged as a response to some of the failures of New Public Management, amid an increasing need for specialized knowledge to address the complex challenges we face in the 21st century (Cheng, 2019; Emerson & Nabatchi, 2015).…”

“…Initially qualified as the "collaborative paradigm of the 21st Century" (Austin, 2007), crosssector partnerships are heavily debated in sectors that coordinate social life: government, State, public sector, business, private sector, non-governmental organizations, and civil sector, among others (Maiolini et al, 2022;Sdunzik et al, 2022). In principle, at least concerning research on cross-sector partnerships, these sectors corresponded to three institutional segments of society: the exclusively public institutional aspect represented by the government, the State, and the public sector; the exclusively private institutional aspect portrayed by business and the private sector; and the exclusively civil institutional aspect in the civil sector and non-governmental organizations (Dentoni et al, 2021).…”
