The Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQR): validation and psychometric properties

Abstract: Introduction The Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) is a commonly used instrument in the evaluation of fibromyalgia (FM) patients. Over the last 18 years, since the publication of the original FIQ, several deficiencies have become apparent and the cumbersome scoring algorithm has been a barrier to widespread clinical use. The aim of this paper is to describe and validate a revised version of the FIQ: the FIQR.

“…The study investigator answered the first 2 questions, identifying the site and selecting the patient diagnosis or diagnoses. All other questions were completed by the subject in the following 5 questionnaires: 1) demographics (age, sex, education level, work status, marital status, and number of years with chronic pain and other chronic pain disorders), 2) The 2011ModCr (9), 3) the Short Form 36 (SF-36) (15), 4) the Symptom Impact Questionnaire (SIQR; the SIQR is identical to the Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire [FIQR], with the exception that the 3 domains do not use the word "fibromyalgia," thus allowing completion by patients with non-FM disorders) (16), and 5) a 28 -anatomic location inventory rating pain and tenderness on a severity scale (range 0 -10). For this last questionnaire, the…”

“…All data were analyzed in Statistica, version 10, using item analysis and Cronbach's alpha. An alternative diagnostic criteria algorithm was explored using the 28-area PLI and the 10-item symptom subscore from the SIQR (16). The PLI and SIQR correlated at r ϭ 0.62, with Cronbach's ␣ ϭ 0.95 and 0.89, respectively.…”

“…For the 3-measure composite responder analysis, the SF-36 PCS was chosen as a measure of physical function, because scores on the physical function subscale of the FIQ did not correlate with changes in pain, global status, or other functional status measures (26). Recently, a revised version of the FIQ has been developed in an attempt to correct some of the problems of the original version, such as outdated wording, omissions, sex bias, and scoring problems (27). The new FIQ contains complete revisions of several domains to reflect the relative importance of function in assessing the overall impact of fibromyalgia on functional ability and the overall impact of fibromyalgia on the perception of reduced function.…”

“…10 However, to complete the assessment of the patient in this study, we also used the FIQR questionnaire, a tool used to assess the degree of general disability from which deductions can be made regarding the affected individual's quality of life. 11 On the basis of this questionnaire, the score was divided into mild 0-39, moderate 39-59 and severe 59- …”
