Over the last decade, YouTube has become one of the largest online resources for medical information. However, uploaded videos are published without any peer review or quality control, so incorrect and incomplete information can be easily disseminated via the virtual platform and can be perceived as correct. The YouTube website was searched for videos in English uploaded between 15 October 2015 and 21 October 2016 using the following keywords: “CPR,” “cardiopulmonary resuscitation,” and “basic life support.” This study had a cross-sectional analytical design. In the first evaluation, the accuracy of the videos was checked according to the information contained in the basic cardiac life support algorithm. In the second evaluation, we assessed whether advanced-level, innovative medical information was included in these videos; when included, the accuracy of such information was checked. Of 774 videos evaluated, 92 videos were included in the study after application of the exclusion criteria. The videos were scored on a scale ranging from 0 to 20 points. The mean total score, based on all criteria, was 4.79 ± 2.88. The highest mean total score was achieved by videos uploaded by official medical organizations (6.43 ± 3.57), followed by those uploaded by health professionals and organizations (4.25 ± 2.49), and those uploaded by unidentified sources. YouTube videos are insufficient in providing information about the basic life support algorithm and advanced-level information according to the 2015 AHA resuscitation guidelines for health professionals. The educational material published by health institutions that are constantly working in the area is a more reliable source of information on subjects that directly affect human life, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Aim: Pediatric Basic Life Support is the initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until advanced life support is available. The American Heart Association (AHA) 2015 guideline recommend the people to perform CPR. YouTube is a video sharing site where internet users can learn about many topics, including health. Everyone can upload videos easily. Therefore, there is no control mechanism for the accuracy and up-to-dateness of the videos. Thus, there is a risk of spreading incorrect or inaccurate information. After the pediatric CPR and BLS guidelines were updated in 2015, we aimed to evaluate the quality and content of the videos published in English on YouTube. Materials and Methods: The YouTube website was searched in 15th June, 2020, using the terms "pediatric cardiac massage" and "pediatric BLS". A total of 200 videos were evaluated.by three anesthetists in terms of instructional, content, up-to dateness and resource. Results: 33 videos included in the study were evaluated according to Azer SA criteria. 14 videos were found to be useful and 19 of them as misleading. The average total viewing times and daily viewing numbers of useful videos were found to be higher. When evaluated in terms of content, similar results were obtained in both groups. Conclusion:This research shows that viewers value videos more being educational than content. For this reason, we think that while editing videos, Azer criteria should be taken into account as an objective criterion and their content should be prepared according to current guidelines.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkçe YouTube sayfalarında kardiyopulmoner resusitasyon (CPR) uygulaması ilgili videoların 2015 CPR kılavuzuna uygunluğunun değerlendirilmesidir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı olarak tasarlanan bu çalışmanın verileri Ağustos-Ekim 2018 tarihleri arasında toplandı. YouTube arama motorunun Türkçe sayfalarında "kardiyopulmoner resüsitasyon", "temel yaşam desteği", "kalp masajı" anahtar kelimeleri kullanılarak arama yapıldı. Araştırma kriterlerine uyan videolar araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan bir kontrol listesi aracılığı ile görsellik ve bilgi içeriği yönünden değerlendirildi. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde SPSS 20,00 programı kullanıldı, sonuçlar sayı ve yüzde olarak verildi. Bulgular: İncelenen videoların %81,6'sında hastanın tepkisinin nasıl kontrol edileceği, %73,7'sinde işleme başlamadan önce 112 acil servisten yardım istenmesi gerektiğine yönelik bilginin yer aldığı, ancak %73,7'sinde CAB sıralamasına uyulması gerektiğine vurgu yapmadığı belirlendi. CPR uygulama videoların %63,2'sinde sağlık personeli tarafından anlatıldığı, videoların %57,9'unun ilgi çekici olmadığı ve ilgiyi sürdüremediği görüldü. Videoların ortalama süresi 5,85 dk (ss: 4,35) olarak hesaplandı. Sonuç: Kardiyopulmoner resusitasyon, solunum ya da dolaşım fonksiyonları durmuş, bilinci yerinde olmayan bireylere uygulandığında hızlı ve etkili bir uygulamadır. Özellikle eksiksiz ve etkin kullanıldığında mortalite ve morbiditeyi önemli derecede azaltmaktadır. CPR bilgi ve becerinin birlikte kullanıldığı bir uygulama olduğundan, kullanılmayan bilgilerin ve tekrarlanmayan uygulamaların hem uygulayıcı hem de üzerinde uygulamanın yapıldığı kişi açısından ciddi sonuçlar doğurabileceği bir gerçektir. Bu çalışmadan elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda Türkiye'de Türkçe YouTube kanalında CPR uygulamasına yönelik bilgi edinmek isteyenlerin ulaşabileceği güncel, güvenilir, eksiksiz ve faydalı videoların sayısının oldukça sınırlı olduğu görülmektedir.
