The Relationships between Belief, Attitude, Subjective Norm, and Behavior Towards Infant Food Formula Selection: The Views of the Malaysian Mothers

Abstract: The purpose of the study is to determine the relationships between belief, attitude, subjective norm, intention, and behavior towards the choice of infant food based on the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA). An analysis on a sample of 108 mothers indicates that the TRA could be used in predicting choice decision of infant food formulas by explaining 57 percent of the variance in the behavioral intention. The subjective norm component had a higher predictive power than the attitudinal component. Of this normative… Show more

“…This finding supports the studies done by Taylor & Todd, (1995); Ramayah et al (2004); Wong (2012) and Brumini et al (2014). However, the regression analysis confirms that e-learning attitudes have positive and significant relationship to students' intention to use e-learning in near future.…”

“…In other words, if a student thinks that there is more to be gained than lost by using e-learning based learning management system, he or she is more likely to use it. Many studies have shown the significant affect of attitude towards intention and use of the information systems Mathieson, 1991;Taylor and Todd, 1995;Lu et al 2003;Shih and Fang, 2004;Ramayah et al 2004 andSuki, 2006;Adewole-Odeshi, 2014;Wong, 2012 andBrumini et al, 2014). Wernet et al (2000) surveyed students who used WebCT in a social work course; found that all of the respondents consider that the online course materials are beneficial to their overall learning experience.…”

“…Moreover, as subjective norm becomes more positive, behavioural intention to participation also becomes more positive (Kuo & Dai, 2012). Further, studies have shown no significant relationship between SN and intention (Chau & Hu, 2001;Lewis et al, 2003) whereas other studies depict the opposing outcome (Chan & Lu, 2004;Jen-Ruei et al, 2006;Ramayah et al, 2004;Taylor & Todd, 1995;Venkatesh & Davis, 2000). It is with these findings that this study states the subsequent hypothesis: Ajzen (1985) identified perceived control behaviour as influencing behavioural intention and directly influencing actual behaviour.…”

“…Humans have a logical thinking mechanism which allows them to decide what to do (Ramayah et al, 2004). This theory claims that basically one behaves cognizantly, has both explicit and implicit considerations for behaviour, and is aware of the implications of one's behavior.…”
