This study investigates the relation between temperament and anger response among prisoners, and compares temperament as proposed by Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory and the Psychobiological Model of Temperament and Character. We asked 210 prisoners to respond to Korean standardized questionnaires, with items of the Behavioral Inhibition System/Behavioral Approach System (BAS/BIS), and the items of Temperament and character inventory (TCI). Based on the Novaco Anger Scale, prisoners’ anger responses were rated as those of direct, indirect, verbal, or impulsive. Three factors of the BAS and BIS all demonstrated significantly positive correlations, while reward dependence and novelty-seeking from the TCI showed a correlation nearing 0. Also, higher harm avoidance of TCI was associated with lower reward dependence, lower level of persistence, and higher level of novelty-seeking of TCI. Regression analyses showed that impulsive anger reaction was significantly explained by novelty-seeking of TCI and BIS; verbal aggression by fun-seeking of BAS and novelty-seeking of TCI; physical confrontation by novelty-seeking of TCI and fun-seeking of BAS; and indirect expression by novelty-seeking, harm avoidance, and persistence of TCI and fun-seeking of BAS.

The aim of this study was to assess cognitive distortions about relationships and anger management styles of university students. Materials and Methods: In this study, a cross-sectional and analytical design was used. The sample of the study consisted of 335 nursing and 152 health management students (n=487). Data were collected using a Student Demographic Form, Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scale (ICDS), and Trait Anger-Anger Expression Styles (TA-AES). Results: The study found that the students' average total ICDS score was 50.27±10.63, and their mean sub-scale scores were 21.77±5.80 for trait anger, 22.76±4.70 for anger which was kept under control, 16.78±4.58 for expressed anger, and 17.05±4.31 for suppressed anger. It was determined that there was a positive, moderately strong correlation between the ICDS and the TA-AES. Conclusion: The present study has demonstrated that the students' cognitive distortions about relationships are associated with their trait anger-anger expression styles. In the light of these findings, it is suggested that mindfulnessbased cognitive-behavioral approaches should be implemented to solve the students' cognitive disorders and anger-related problems. Amaç: Bu çalışma üniversite öğrencilerinin kişilerarası ilişkilerle ilgili bilişsel çarpıtmaları ve öfke ifade tarzlarının incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışmada, kesitsel ve analitik türde bir araştırma deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi 335 hemşirelik ve 152 sağlık yönetimi bölümü öğrencisinden oluşmuştur (n=487). Veriler, "Öğrenci Bilgi Formu", "Kişilerarası Bilişsel Çarpıtmalar Ölçeği (KBÇÖ)" ve "Sürekli Öfke-Öfke Tarz Ölçeği (SÖ-ÖTÖ)" ile toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin ilişkilerle ilgili bilişsel çarpıtmalar genel toplam puan ortalaması 50.27±10.63 olup sürekli öfke tarzı puan ortalaması 21.77±5.80, öfke tarzı ölçeğinin "kontrol altına alınmış öfke" boyutunda 22.76±4.70, "dışa vurulan öfke" boyutunda 16.78±4.58 ve "içte tutulan öfke" boyutunda 17.05±4.31 olarak saptanmıştır. İİBÇÖ ile SÖ-ÖTÖ arasında orta düzeyde ve pozitif yönde bir ilişki belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Bu çalışma, öğrencilerin ilişkilerle ilgili bilişsel çarpıtmalarının sürekli öfke-öfke ifade tarzları ile ilişkili olduğunu saptamıştır. Bu bulgular doğrultusunda, öğrencilerin bilişsel çarpıtmalarını ve öfke ile ilgili yaşadıkları sorunları çözmek için bilinçli farkındalık temelli bilişsel-davranışçı yaklaşımların uygulanması önerilmiştir.

ÖZ ABSTRACTAmaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi son sınıf öğrencilerinin öfke ifade tarzlarını belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Tanımlayıcı tipte yapılan araştırma bir kamu üniversitesinin Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Hemşirelik, Sağlık Yönetimi ve Çocuk Gelişimi Bölümü son sınıf 198 öğrencinin 114'ünün katılımı ile gerçekleşmiştir (katılım oranı %58). Veriler, öfke ifade tarzlarını belirlemek amacıyla geliştirilmiş "Sürekli Öfke/Öfke İfade Tarzı Ölçeği" kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Ölçek 34 maddeli ve 4'lü likert tipinden oluşmaktadır. Sürekli öfkeden alınan yüksek puan öfke düzeyinin yüksek olduğunu; öfke kontrolü ölçeğinden alınan yüksek puan öfkenin kontrol edilebildiğini, öfke dışa vurum ölçeğinden alınan yüksek puan, öfkenin kolayca ifade edilebiliyor olduğunu ve öfke içe vurum alt ölçeğinden alınan yüksek puan ise öfkenin bastırılmış olduğunu göstermektedir. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %62.3'ü Hemşirelik, %16.7'si Sağlık Yönetimi ve %21.1'i ise Çocuk Gelişimi bölümünde okumaktadır. Öğrencilerin orta düzeyde öfke davranışı gösterdikleri; öfke durumunu bastırma düzeylerinin düşük olduğu, öfkelerini kolay ifade edemedikleri ve orta düzeyde öfke kontrolleri olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin sürekli öfke ile öfke içe vurumu (r=0.44; p≤05) ve öfke dışa vurumu (r=0.71; p=0.00) arasında pozitif anlamlı; öfke kontrolü (r=-0.44; p=0.00) ile arasında ise negatif anlamlı bir ilişki görülmüştür. Genel öfke durumu açısından bölümler arasında fark anlamlı bulunmamıştır. Sonuç: Çalışmada, öğrencilerin orta düzeyde öfke yaşadıkları, öfkelerini kolay ifade edemedikleri, öfkeyi bastırma düzeylerinin ve öfke kontrollerinin düşük olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sağlık alanında çalışacak öğrencilerinin öfkelerini kontrol etme ve uygun şekilde öfkeyle baş etme yöntemlerini geliştirmeleri açısından eğitimlerin planlanması, ilgili derslerin içeriğine öfke kontrolü konularının eklenmesi önerilebilir.Objective: The aim of this study is to determine anger expression style of last year students in Faculty of Health Sciences. Material and Methods: This descriptive study was carried out with the participation of 114 senior grade students from the Department of Nursing, Health Management and Child. Data were collected by using the "Trait Anger Expression Scale" which was developed to determine anger expression styles. The scale consists of 34 items and quadruple Likert Type Scaling. A high score of continuous anger showed that anger level was high. The high score of anger control scale indicated that anger could be controlled. The high score of anger-out scale indicated that anger could be easily expressed, and the high score for inward anger subscale showed that anger was suppressed. Results: Nursing students made up 62.3% of the study population while 16.7% were health management students and 21.1% child development students.
