“…Overall, they concluded that persuasive strategies were not widely employed in mental health applications. Moreover, Wildeboer et al (2016) examined the relationship between persuasive strategies, adherence, and the effectiveness of web-based intervention for mental health. Results indicated there is a relationship between the number of persuasive strategies and the intervention's effectiveness.…”

“…For example, rewards can supplement suggestion, making this an effective combination (Räisänen, Lehto, & Oinas-Kukkonen, 2011). Also, the combination of tunneling, tailoring, reminders, social learning, social comparison, with or without similarity, seems to contribute to higher effect sizes (Wildeboer et al, 2016). However, it must be avoided to weaken persuasiveness by implementing features that have low synergy.…”

“…Issues of persuasive design will become a critical area of focus within eHealth intervention development and will have considerable effects on usage and outcome. The employment of persuasive strategies into the design can increase the adherence to interventions, and its desired effects to be achieved Wildeboer, Kelders, & van Gemert-Pijnen, 2016). Yet, theoretical frameworks and conceptual models are needed that pay closer attention to mapping the lessons learned from psychological studies, with the characteristics of modern information and communication technologies.…”

“…The persuasive system design (PSD) model (Oinas-Kukkonen & Harjumaa, 2008), based on the original work by Fogg (2003), is a systematic way of designing and assessing persuasive technology. A growing number of studies are using this model in eHealth interventions to assess how persuasive technologies are being used and understand how they influence health outcomes more consistently (Kelders, Kok, Ossebaard, & van Gemert-Pijnen, 2012;Kelders et al, 2016;Lentferink et al, 2017;van Gemert-Pijnen et al, 2011;Wildeboer, Kelders, & van Gemert-Pijnen, 2016). The PSD model is specifically concerned with human-computer interaction, which refers to the inherent features of technology to influence the user's behaviour, rather than the features of technology which facilitate human-tohuman interaction.…”
