Background and Aim: Nurses need ethical courage to make correct decisions in various clinical situations and to engage in proper care behaviors based on ethical principles. In this regard, the present study aimed to determine the relationship between ethical courage and care behaviors of nurses in the year 2023. Method In this cross-sectional study, 146 nurses employed in educational hospitals in the city of Hamadan were selected using stratified sampling method. Data collection instruments included: a checklist of demographic characteristics, Sekerka and colleagues' Ethical Courage Questionnaire, and the Caregiver Behavior Inventory (CDI-25) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS 24 software and descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test, and ANOVA. Findings: The results showed that the majority of participating nurses were female (67.1%) and had a bachelor's degree (89%). The mean ± standard deviation of ethical courage and nurses' care behaviors were 9.26 ± 3.15 and 13.254 ± 101.164, respectively. Also, there was a significant and positive correlation between ethical courage and nurses' care behaviors (P < 0.001, r = 0.264). Conclusion Considering the direct relationship between ethical courage and care behaviors, it is recommended that relevant managers strive to promote ethical courage among all nurses by supporting and encouraging those who demonstrate ethical courage, thus playing an influential role in achieving a higher level of desired care behaviors.

Background: Compassion competence is a core nursing skill that is significant in understanding and alleviating the physical and mental distress of individuals. Self-leadership and nursing professional values are also reported as important factors in improving the clinical care practices of nurses and may have a positive effect on improving the compassion competence of nurses. However, there are few studies examining the relationship between these variables in community mental health nurses. Aim: This study investigated the mediating effect of professional values on the relationship between self-leadership and compassion competence of community mental health nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted with 121 community mental health nurses from 30 mental health welfare centers in South Korea. Participants completed self-report scales on self-leadership, nursing professional values, and compassion competence. Baron and Kenny’s regression method and the Sobel test revealed significant mediating effects of nursing professional values on the relationship between self-leadership and compassion competence. Findings: Participants’ mean compassion competence scores were 3.57 (SD = 0.45) on a 5-point scale. Compassion competence positively correlated with self-leadership ( r = 0.67, P < .001) and nursing professional values ( r = 0.60, P < .001). Nursing professional values played a partial mediating role in the relationship between self-leadership and compassion competence ( Z = 3.23, P = .001). Conclusion: Compassion competence of community mental health nurses can be improved by promoting self-leadership and nursing professional values.

Aim We aimed to discuss the importance of the integration of nursing theories in advanced nursing to meet future demands. Background Nursing studies reporting a lack of professional care have increased in recent years and indicate a global complex socioecological problem. The lack of a clear theoretical understanding in education, research and practice makes Advanced Practice Nursing invisible and vulnerable. Design A theoretical paper was selected to stimulate vital reflexion and debate about the importance of theory integration. Methods The selection of nursing theories represents the position of some theorists based on our experiences with national and international research and personal leadership in a master's degree program. Implications for nurses For nurses to continue to make a difference in the lives of their patients, practitioners, and researchers need to practice and expand theoretical understanding within their fields. This would enable them to be visible and at the forefront of the wider changes in health care owing to their central position and connection to health organizations. Conclusion Nursing theories are essential to the continuing evolution of the discipline of nursing. Postgraduate programs in nursing and research must be encouraged to use and further develop nursing theories to facilitate the advancement of nursing care in education, research, and practice.
