Objective: Objective: In this study, we aimed to determine the roles of neutrophil, MPV, and NLR, in the diagnosis of ACS and the differentiation of ACS subtypes (ST-elevation myocardial infarction and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction), in patients presented to the emergency department with chest pain and were diagnosed with ACS (acute coronary syndrome). Methods: This study was designed as a single-center, cross-sectional, and retrospective. 402 patients who were applied to University Hospital Emergency Department between January 2020 and November 2020; and registered to hospital automation system with chest pain; and underwent further examinations and treatments were included in the study. Ethical approval was obtained from the Local Clinical Research Ethics Committee before the study. Patients who were hospitalized after further examination, who received medical treatment, and did not undergo PCI (Percutaneous coronary intervention) were accepted as NSTMI (n = 202). Patients who were hospitalized after further examination and underwent PCI were accepted as STMI (n = 200). Results: 36.3% of the patients were female (n = 146) and 63.7% (n = 256) were male. The mean age of the cases was detected to be 61.46 ± 14.06. The number of hospitalized ACS patients for NSTMI suspicion and received medical treatment was 202. The number of patients who underwent PCI and accepted as STMI was 200.Mean neutrophils, MPV, NLR, and Troponin values were also significantly higher than those who are not hospitalized (p <0.001). The mean WBC, Neutrophil, NLR, and Troponin values of the patients underwent PCI were also significantly higher than those without PCI (p <0.001). Conclusions: We believe that NLR is a diagnostic valuable that can be used as a biomarker in diagnosing ACS and determining the PCI.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of monocyte/high-density lipoprotein (MHR), which is associated with systemic inflammation: on prolonged hospitalization in patients with mild acute pancreatitis. Patients hospitalized for acute edematous pancreatitis between 01.01.2021 and 31.12.2021 were retrospectively screened. Arrival Ranson scores of the patients were calculated. Those with a Ranson score <3 were considered as mild acute pancreatitis and were included in the study. Patients with mild acute pancreatitis were divided into 2 groups with a hospital stay of <8 days and ≥8 days. Monocyte/HDL, biochemical and metabolic parameters were compared between the groups. The study was conducted with a total of 39 patients, 23 male (59%) and 16 female (41%). While 28 (71.8%) of the patients were discharged within <8 days, 11 (28.2%) were hospitalized for ≥8 days. Group ≥8 days was considered as prolonged hospitalization. It was determined that the monocyte/HDL ratio was significantly higher in the group with prolonged hospitalization between the groups. In univariate analyzes, it was determined that the presence of Diabetes Mellitus and MHR increased the risk of prolonged hospitalization by 5.25 times and 1.085 times, respectively. In the multivariate analysis of these two parameters, MHR was found to be an independent risk factor for prolonged hospitalization. It was concluded that monocyte/HDL can be used as a simple and reliable parameter to predict the duration of hospitalization in patients with mild acute pancreatitis.

Objective: Telogen effluvium is one of the chronic diseases that affect the quality of life (QoL) in women. The study aimed to evaluate the RDW/MCV ratio and its correlation with ferritin in Telogen Effluvium patients and to reveal their potential role in the etiopathogenesis of Telogen effluvium. Material and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the medical data of 250 patients who were admitted to the dermatology outpatient clinic between September 2020 and December 2020 with a diagnosis of Telogen effluvium. The control group was created retrospectively from the medical records of 250 healthy individuals. HB, HCT, MPV, MCV, RDW, ferritin, and MCV/RDW ratio of both groups were compared and evaluated statistically. Results: All of the Telogen effluvium patients were women in terms of gender. The mean age of the patient group was 33,11±9,66 years and the mean age of the control group was 34,98±12,37 years. The ratio of MCV/RDW, MPV, MCV, and ferritin is lower in the group with Telogen effluvium compared to the control group and a statistically significant difference was found(p<0.05). However, the correlation between MCV/RDW ratio and ferritin was evaluated in Telogen effluvium patients, and no significant differences were found (p>0.05). Conclusion: Iron deficiency anemia is thought of as a factor in female patients with telogen effluvium. Although the data shows the correction of iron deficiency is insufficient telogen effluvium, we proposed that laboratory tests should be routinely used in the diagnosis and treatment phase of patients who apply with the complaint of hair loss.
