“…It is crucial for obese patients who have lost weight to maintain their status, as weight regaining worsens AS with a significant increase in PWV, especially in patients with obesity and MS [ 56 ]. Moreover, it is important to pay particular attention to patients with MS and AS in whom the adverse effect of metabolic disturbances on arterial function can be offset by an adequate program of exercises, which includes mainly aerobic physical training [ 109 , 110 ].…”

“…Data on the effects of exercise training in patients with hypertension is limited. However, one study of 156 hypertensive patients randomized to 12 months of exercise training or usual care found 30% reduction in visceral fat area on B-mode ultrasound compared to no effect with antihypertensive pharmacotherapy alone ( 139 ). Meta-analyses of the effect of exercise training on visceral fat in both overweight adults and patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus suggest that aerobic exercise training (but not resistance training) appears to provide the greatest benefits ( 140 ) ( Table 3 ).…”

“…PWV refers to the conduction velocity of the pressure wave propagating along the wall of the aorta with each pulse ejection, and it is a non-invasive index for evaluating the stiffness of arterial vessels, and PWV measurements are considered more sensitive than conventional blood pressure measurements ( 16 ). Theoretically, increased arterial stiffness is related to the loss of arterial elasticity and decreased compliance, and increased blood pressure will lead to vascular wall remodeling and vascular dysfunction, in order to compensate for changes in vascular wall stress, thus further aggravating arterial stiffness ( 17 ). Therefore, improving vascular function is essential for management and prevention strategies in patients with pre-hypertension and hypertension.…”
