The Reaction of Oleic Acid with a Mixture of Ethanolamines

Abstract: Abstract.1 Regularities of the reaction of oleic acid with a mixture of ethanolamines have been investigated under non-stationary conditions in the presence of H-form of cation-exchange resin KU-2-8 as a catalyst. The effect of a ratio between reagents and the catalyst on the acid conversion, selectivity and products yield has been determined. N-acylation of mono-and diethanolamines by an oleic acid was found to be more intensive compared with esterification of hydroxy groups of ethanolamine.

“…Previously obtained by our results [21] indicate that the kinetics of the products' formation of ethanolamine and pentyl acetate interaction can be largely explained by the above ideas about this process. However, creating a kinetic model and calculating the kinetic indicators of reactions is helpful both for its better understanding and for the results used to model the process.…”

“…[1][2][3][4] Carboxylic acids also show high reactivity with ethanolamines. [5][6] It is believed, that the main reaction that occurs during the interaction of an ester and amino alcohol is transesterification. Then, the formed ester undergoes further intermolecular transformation (N-O-acyl migration) producing ester amide.…”

“…A large number of efficient solid acid catalysts, such as solid superacid, carbon solid acid, , cation exchange resin, , and heteropoly acids (HPAs), have also been reported for the synthesis of oleate. Among them, HPAs have the advantages of strong acidity and being environment-friendly.…”
