The Quest for Utopia in the Eighteenth Century

Abstract: This article reviews critical scholarship on eighteenth‐century utopias and utopianism over the last ten years. It suggests that, in the light of current debates about Enlightenment discourses, eighteenth‐century utopias and utopianism reflect accurately the multitude of discourses on gender, sexuality, colonialism and politics that make the Enlightenment so contentious.
