The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of warehouse management on the organizational performance in a manufacturing company. Despite the many efforts used by Rwandan manufacturing industries in warehouse management to store their goods, equipment, inventory, and other items, the achievement remains uncertain, and this affects poorly the performance of Cimerwa Limited. In conducting this research, three objectives were focused on: to assess the effect of inventory on performance of Cimerwa Limited in Rusizi District, to find out the effect of material handling, packing and dispatching on performance of Cimerwa Limited in Rusizi District and finally to assess the effect of automation and optimization on performance of Cimerwa Limited in Rusizi District. To achieve these objectives, literature was reviewed on the subject matter, and then data was collected from 285 employees of Cimerwa Cement and out of them a sample size of 166 respondents were selected by using purposive sampling technique. Questionnaire, observation, interview guide and documentation were used as tools of data collection. Data was analyzed by using both quantitative data and qualitative data by presenting the findings of respondents through the mean and standard deviation. The R Square value, at 0.792, signifies that 79.2% of the variation in organizational performance can be explained by the combined influence of automation and optimization, inventory, and material handling. Regarding inventory, it displays an unstandardized coefficient β of 0.676, with a highly significant p-value of 0.000<0.05. Similarly, for material handling, the unstandardized coefficient β is 0.731, and the effect is statistically significant with a p-value of 0.000<0.05. Likewise, for automation and optimization, the unstandardized coefficient β is 0.666, and the effect is statistically significant with a p-value of 0.000<0.05. Cimerwa should improve inventory management, implement efficient production planning, and enhance warehouse management for better organizational performance, incorporating techniques like EOQ and JIT for cost savings. The study concluded that there is a positive link between warehouse management and the organizational performance of Cimerwa; thus, the warehouse at Cimerwa moves, stores, tracks, and ships items. Therefore, inline of findings researcher recommended that Cimerwa must also ensure that a good production plan is used.

Transaction Method of Warehouse Sharing Platform Based on Blockchain Technology

With the continuous development of big data and blockchain technology, there are more applications of warehousing sharing platform, and warehousing transaction method has become the research focus. The original barter method can not solve the problem of accurate warehousing transactions, and the calculation accuracy of warehousing transactions is poor. Therefore, this paper proposes a warehouse transaction model based on blockchain technology, and comprehensively analyzes the form and accuracy of warehouse transactions. Firstly, the warehouse trading platform is used to count the transaction data and transaction methods, and the transaction forms and results are judged according to the warehouse characteristics, and irrelevant transaction information is abandoned. Then, according to the change rate of transaction data and transaction mode, the results are calculated, and compared with the actual transaction situation, and the parameters and indicators of transaction calculation are adjusted. MATLAB simulation test analysis shows that blockchain calculation method can improve the accuracy of warehousing transactions, and the accuracy rate reaches 95.3%. According to different transaction contents, the platform and form are judged, and the transaction time is calculated. It is found that the blockchain calculation method can meet the needs of warehousing transactions.

Labor markets for health supply chain management in Rwanda: a qualitative study of stakeholder perspectives

Background Effective supply chains for health products require an adequate, skilled workforce for supply chain management (SCM). Rwanda faces challenges in human resources for SCM, including limited capacity for SCM at different levels. Understanding of the factors influencing the supply of and demand for SCM professionals in Rwanda is necessary to ensure the labor market contains an adequate workforce. This study identifies the perspectives of key stakeholders in the supply chain management sector about the factors influencing the supply of and demand for SCM professionals. Methods Data were collected in semi-structured group and one-on-one interviews with 39 key stakeholders involved in the supply chain management labor market between March and April 2019. Interviewees were categorized according to their role in the labor market as system actors, functional actors involved in the supply of SCM workers, and functional actors involved in the demand for SCM workers. Interviewees were asked open-ended questions about factors influencing the demand for and the supply of SCM workers, and recommendations for improvement. Interviews were analyzed thematically. One validation focus group was held and the results were also reviewed by the Ministry of Health in Rwanda. Results Stakeholders agreed that skills mismatch between SCM workers’ skills and the competencies jobs require impacts the supply of workers. A lack of career structure for SCM, lack of professional definitions for health supply chain management, and SCM curricula that do not match the needs of the workplace contribute to this gap. The demand for SCM professionals is poorly defined in terms of the numbers of professionals needed and the skills workers require. Financial limitations hinder demand for health SCM professionals. Conclusions This study adds to the understanding of factors influencing the SCM labor market in Rwanda by documenting perspectives from government ministries, professional organizations, universities, and employers from SCM organizations. Improving the SCM labor market in Rwanda and the availability of the skilled cadres required for the effective management of health supply chains in Rwanda requires a coordinated effort by the Ministry of Health in Rwanda, private SCM companies, professional associations, education sector, and policy makers.
