“…Given that the teaching resource was developed to accommodate the majority of the learner's needs from a readability and literacy level, a defined target of 80% use of the teaching resource would be recommended. 37 If tracking reveals low levels of resource use, then this information may suggest that revisions to the content are required or that utility of the resource to the learning process is questionable, provided the prelearning patient assessment did not preclude its use. Additionally, evaluation of patient satisfaction in terms of their level of involvement in the prelearning assessment, learning goals, and plan will be obtained by asking the patients to rate their level of engagement in the learning goals and plan using a 5-point Likert Scale.…”

“…To ensure wide patient usability of the written teaching resource and evaluation of the design characteristics, readability of the written tool was conducted using the print material evaluation SMOG method to ensure that the reading level was at a grade 5 or lower. 37 Additionally, engagement of patients in the design and development of the written teaching resource and revised patient assessment and learning plans was used to ensure that patients had an opportunity to assess their self-care agency capacity in relation to health literacy and the appropriateness of the revised prelearning assessment data criteria and teaching resource. This patient engagement exercise helped to inform whether the teaching resource and documentation tools would meet the majority of the patients' needs.…”
