The Q-switched ND: YAG Laser Effectively Treats Tattoos in Darkly Pigmented Skin

Abstract: When treating patients in whom there is a significant risk for keloid scarring or destruction of natural pigment as a consequence of tattoo removal, the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser appears to be an excellent choice of therapy.

“…Q-switched mode Nd: YAG laser, transfer large amounts of energy to the epidermis in a matter of nanoseconds [3,16]. Tattoo clearing may occur via particle fragmantation, phagocytosis of cell death and subsequent elimination via lymphatics [17,18]. Selective photothemolysis theory popularized by Anderson and Parrish showed that Q-switch mode lasers show selective effects for pigment retaining cells.…”

Genellikle kırmızı pigmentin %75'i 3 seansta tedavi edilebilmektedir 27,30 .

“…The most commonly used laser sources are short-pulsed near infrared (NIR) lasers including ruby at 694 nm [10,[12][13][14][15], Q-switched Nd:YAG at 1,064 nm [4,5,[15][16][17], and Q-switched Alexandrite at 700-850 nm [4,6,15,[18][19][20]. NIR laser energy is transmitted by the skin, but absorbed strongly by most blue, green, or black tattoo pigments.…”
