The psychometric properties of the Persian menopause rating scale

Abstract: Background: To measure the severity of menopausal complaints and determine the pattern of menopausal symptoms, a valid and reliable instrument is needed in women's healthcare. The Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) is one of the best-known tools in response to the lack of standardized scales. The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the MRS in an Iranian example. Methods: Participants were randomly selected from women referred to healthcare centers in Miandoab, West Azerbaijan, Iran. A… Show more

“…The experts were asked to review the questionnaire and evaluate each item considering 4 criteria including relevancy, clarity, simplicity, and necessity [ 44 ]. The content validity ratio (CVR) was assessed according to replies to the necessity of questions (nE) and the following formula of CVR was applied: CVR = (nE-N/2)/ (N/2).…”

“…For instance, sexual problems and vaginal dryness were classified as somatic, whereas heart problems were classified as urogenital (data not shown). In the validation studies conducted on the Czech, Chinese, and Persian versions of MRS, this loading of domain items was observed to be different from the original version [ 17 , 19 , 29 ]. Such instability in factor structure was noted in a multi-country evaluation study by the authors of the original MRS questionnaire [ 15 ].…”

“…In previous research on translated versions of MRS, confirmatory factor analysis has encountered “straddling" with the factor structure of MRS [ 17 , 19 , 29 ]. To establish the construct validity of Malay language version of MRS, Exploratory Structural Equation Modelling (ESEM) is the recommended statistical approach which integrates the best features of exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses by allowing cross-loadings of items in the analyses while taking on the features of structural equation modelling [ 30 ].…”
