“…Our study contributes to the theoretical debates on the implications of very high entrepreneurial self-efficacy and the associated overconfidence in entrepreneurship (Frese & Gielnik, 2023). For entrepreneurs, getting feedback about the adequacy of their actions and the viability of their business opportunities is critical to guide their efforts toward developing a successful venture (Eller et al, 2021;Frese & Gielnik, 2023). In this regard, entrepreneurial self-efficacy might be a double-edged sword.…”

“…Because “all individuals are not equally likely to recognize a given […] opportunity,” to understand why some individuals are able to recognize certain opportunities and others are not, entrepreneurship scholars have used the knowledge corridor thesis (cf. Frese and Gielnik, 2023; Marvel et al , 2020; Ronstadt, 1988; Shane, 2000: 451). Proponents of this thesis explain that an entrepreneurs’ social and cultural experiences create different knowledge corridors that are then drawn upon to recognize specific opportunities (Cliff et al , 2006; Kirzner, 1997; Shane, 2000; Shane and Venkataraman, 2000; Shepherd and DeTienne, 2005).…”
