The Proper Diet and Regular Physical Activity Slow Down the Development of Parkinson Disease

Abstract: From year to year, we know more about neurodegeneration and Parkinson’s disease (PD). A positive influence of various types of physical activity is more often described in the context of neuroprotection and prevention as well as the form of rehabilitation in Parkinson’s patients. Moreover, when we look at supplementation, clinical nutrition and dietetics, we will see that balancing consumed products and supplementing the vitamins or minerals is necessary. Considering the biochemical pathways in skeletal muscle… Show more

“…Nevertheless, the nutritional guidelines for people with PD focuses on early detection of nutritional problems, advice for common nutritional challenges and maintenance or improvement of physical function [ 38 , 39 ]. In addition, optimal nutrition and dietary habits can positively affect the effectiveness of PD medications and potentially slow down disease development [ 40 ], as well as improve symptom management and overall well-being [ 39 , 40 ].…”

“…The combination of nutrition and exercise has been shown to improve health outcomes, and interventions combining both is found to have better effects than either one alone in other populations [ 75 77 ]. This combination has not yet been studied in the PD population, but it is suggested that it has the potential to slow down the progression of the disease [ 40 ]. A focus on self-management with a comprehensive approach is both desired [ 50 , 78 ] and recommended for future research in this area [ 49 , 79 ].…”

“…One approach to studying the development of PD is to explore factors associated with increased PD risk. For instance, several factors contribute to the risk of developing PD, including genetics, biological sex, environmental exposures, and lifestyle [ 47 , 48 , 49 , 50 ]. As a result, modifiable risk factors serve as potential targets for attenuating an individual’s risk.…”
