“…However, the mechanisms underlying expressions of steroidogenic enzymes after chronic endurance training remain to be elucidated. A previous study reported that transactivation of 5a-reductase is specificity protein 1-dependent (6). The other studies showed that several nuclear factors, such as steroidogenic factor-1 (23) and adrenal 4-binding protein (24,27) are transcriptional regulators of P450arom.…”

“…To determine if the changes observed in the P450scc, 5α-reductase-1 and 3α-HSD transcript levels are related to DNA methylation modifications, we determined the methylation state of (Blanchard et al, 2007) and 3α-HSD (Penning, 1996) promoters, their binding proteins and methylationtargeted CG areas. The positions of the TATA box are indicated.…”

“…The transcriptional regulation of the 5α‐reductase type 1 gene ( Srd5a1 ) remains unresolved in the epididymis, but its promoter region has been characterized in the rat (Blanchard et al, 2007). Contrary to the promoter for the 5α‐reductase type 2 gene ( Srd5a2 ; Seenundun and Robaire, 2005), the Srd5a1 promoter is bidirectional, with the highest activity in the negative orientation, in the direction of the methyltransferase NSun2 (predicted) gene (Blanchard et al, 2007). The lack of similarity between the two promoters is puzzling, considering that their products catalyze the same reaction and have similar protein structures and substrate preferences (Russell and Wilson, 1994).…”
